Mass REAL ID Drivers Licenses Required By This Time Next Year

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is reminding customers of the federal requirement that anyone traveling by plane domestically, or wishing to enter certain federal buildings, will need acceptable identification credentials, effective May 3, 2023.   Acceptable credentials can include an RMV-issued REAL ID driver's license or ID, or a valid passport. The Registry is encouraging customers who are seeking a REAL ID compliant license or identification card to make an appointment at a statewide RMV Service Center to secure this credential before the federal requirement takes effect next year.    "While federal REAL ID travel requirements

Great Barrington Will Hold Drive-in Annual Town Meeting

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Selectboard voted unanimously to host this year's Annual Town Meeting as a "drive-in" event similar to those in the past two years.    The meeting will be held Monday, June 6 at 6 p.m. at Monument Mountain Regional High School. If business is not completed in one evening, the meeting will be continued to Thursday, June 9 at 6 p.m.   The board opted for the outdoor event again due to potential COVID-19 risks inside the high school, which has been the usual venue for the annual event.     Town residents have until May 17 to register to vote if they wish to vote in the Annual Town Meeting.   Registration can

Pignatelli Secures Funding for Four Nonprofits in Fiscal 2023 Budget

LENOX, Mass. — State Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli has secured $260,000 in earmarks in the House budget for local nonprofits in the 4th Berkshire District.    The state House on Wednesday passed a fiscal 2023 budget of $49.73 billion. Simon's Rock Professor Awarded Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Peter Filkins, Richard B. Fisher Professor of Literature at Bard College at Simon's Rock, has been awarded a 2022-2023 Guggenheim Fellowship in Biography and a Spring 2023 Fulbright IFK Senior Fellowship in Cultural Studies in support of his writing a biography of Ingeborg Bachmann (1926-1973).   Bachmann is a 20th century Austrian writer and poet.   Nearly 40 years after Filkins was awarded a student Fulbright in 1983-84 to translate Bachmann's poems, he will return to do research in her archive at the National Library in Vienna, Austria.    Over the course of the next academic year, Filkins will spend seven months in Vienna, part

Simon's Rock Alum Awarded Fulbright to Teach English in Italy

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. —Simon's Rock alum Chazlee Myers ‘12 was awarded an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) grant by the US-Italy Fulbright Commission to provide assistance to local English teachers in Italy and act as a cultural ambassador for the U.S from October 2022 to June 2023.    Myers is one of only ten ETA grant awardees for Italy.   Myers majored in German Studies and Photography at Simon's Rock and studied abroad in Germany at the University of Marburg.
