Art of Brewlng Norman Rockwell Museum and Collective Arts Brewing have announced a new partnership designed to promote illustration programs around the country and highlight career paths available to artists. The museum and the craft beer company have teamed up to host the first annual Art of Brewing Contest, open to art students in the United States. The submission deadline is March 31. Eight winning entries — selected by a jury of representatives from Collective Arts Brewing, Norman Rockwell Museum and contemporary illustrators — will be showcased on a Collective Arts Brewing can series, distributed across North America. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Eight local boys and girls have earned the right to compete at the Western Mass regional of the Knights of Columbus free throw shooting contest. Patrick McLaughlin, Jason Sibley, David Kirchner, Danielle Glasier, Katie Shove, Jocelyn Fairfield, Grace Julieano and Ahna Balcom advanced in their age groups from a field of 15 competitors at Crosby Elementary School. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Yvonne Koperek of Christmas Brook Figure Skating Club earned a gold medal this weekend in the Bay State Winter Games at Williams College's Lansing Chapman Rink. Koperek topped a field of 10 skaters in her group in the Excel Pre Juvenile Girls Free Skating division. The Bay State Winter Games continue the first weekend in March with events in North Adams and Pittsfield. The masters ice hockey tournament will be held at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink, March 1-3. The inaugural Bay State curling competition will be held March 2 and 3 at the Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The MCLA softball program this winter will host a pair of clinics that will focus on skill development of a wide range of age levels. The first clinic is for youth players aged 7-13 and will be held on Feb. 24. The second clinic is set for March 3 and will be for high school student-athletes. Registration is required for both clinics. Registration is not complete without payment and the corresponding health forms above. All players must bring the consent form prior to participation. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Humane Society has received a grant for $18,000 from the Massachusetts Animal Coalition's License Plate Program to continue providing low-cost spay/neuter services for cats and dogs in Berkshire County. This grant, which was funded in the fall of 2018, made BHS's successful "100 Cats for Christmas" program possible. A portion of the grant has been awarded to Animal DREAMS for its feral and community cat spay/neuter efforts, and the remaining funds will support the Humane Society's Be Hip & SNIP Your Dog.
