LENOX, Mass. — Monument Mountain Regional High School's class orator Emma Adler wouldn't be the same Emma if it weren't for band director Jeffrey Stevens.

Adler found her passion in music through her six years of working with Stevens. But she wasn't the only one. Stevens has been part of the school's Music Department for 34 years and is now retiring. Adler contacted thousands of musicians who were inspired by Stevens and collected letters of thanks.

For Adler, music is what helped build who she is today and on Sunday, she was just one of 132 students graduating who were inspired in some way by the teachers at Monument Mountain.

LENOX, Mass. — The 60 graduates of Lee High School couldn't miss the message on Saturday afternoon: Get out and do something.

"Lose sleep, take those chances, do memorable things that stay with you forever and let go of unimportant things," valedictorian Emily P. Donovan told them from the stage of the Shed at Tanglewood. "Let go of that AP test or 12 that you failed. Let go of that ex-boyfriend or girlfriend. Let go of any mistakes you made along the way. Start this next chapter with a clean slate ...

"Go into the world filled with endless opportunities and create your own luck because luck is a result of skillful preparation."

LENOX, Mass. — Mount Everett Regional School's 56 graduates had the benefit of all the opportunities and guidance of the small school and it's supportive community.

Now it's time to build on that foundation, and give back.

That was theme at the school's graduation exercises on Saturday morning in Tanglewood's Shed.

"We owe thanks to all those who have gotten us this far, but we also owe them something more than that," said valedictorian Justin Makuc from the stage. "We have benefited greatly from people whose goal was to help us, and now it is our duty to help others in the same way."

Makuc, who will attend the College of the Holy Cross

LENOX, Mass. — Laura Forero thought she wanted to go into computer programming.   But one semester in at Berkshire Community College, she realized it wasn't for her. She finished up her classes and tried to figure out what to do instead.    "I realized that I did not see programming in my future. I realized this was not after all something I wanted to do. However, I did not see my decision as a failure. Instead I learned that I did not want to do something so it was kind of a success," Forero said.    The next semester she changed majors to

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — McCann Tech senior Samantha Dorwin is going places.

Or, to be more accurate, she is going MORE places, as the 18-year-old already has logged 15,000 miles in the air in last two years participating in SkillsUSA conferences. This coming summer, while attending SkillsUSA's National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Ky., she will fly to Washington, D.C., for a couple days to be honored for receiving one most prestigious awards a graduating high school senior can earn: the U.S. Department of Education's Presidential Scholar award.

Appropriately for Dorwin, daughter of Daniel and Pamela Dorwin, she learned she was a finalist for the honor while on
