Daniel W. Walden, 67

July 11, 2017


DALTON, Mass. — Daniel W. Walden, 67, of 181 High St. passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center after a courageous battle with leukemia.



Born on September 18, 1949 in Pittsfield, he was the son of the late William and Kathleen Honiker Walden. A lifelong Dalton resident, he was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1967 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. He also attended the New England Automotive School in Connecticut.



Dan was employed as an assembler for 27 years at General Electric, where he also served as union steward. He retired in 1999. After his retirement he joined Abbott’s Limousine & Livery Service in Lee as a transportation specialist, where he worked for the past 16 years.



An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Midnight Cruisers Car Club and a longtime fan of the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed doing car restorations.



He leaves his wife, Cheryl L. Burgess Walden of Dalton, whom he married on October 24, 1970. They would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this coming October. He also leaves three daughters, Kristen M. Walden-Farley and her husband Todd of Dalton, Carrie A. Walden and her significant other, Brendan Farrell, of Dalton and Katie L. Walden and her significant other, Matthew Zurawik, of Dalton; a son, Paul S. Burgess of Lanesborough; a sister, Debra Helms and her husband Jery of Hinsdale; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Alyssa, Taylor, Brady, Layla, Evan, Caleb and Kiara; as well as his best friend, Don Pelkey of Windsor.



Funeral notice: A graveside service for Daniel W. Walden of Dalton, who passed away July 11, 2017, will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in memory of Dan may be made to the Dalton CRA to assist in their youth sports programs in care of the Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226 which is handling arrangements.
