Louis J. Giovanetti, 92

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Louis Joseph Giovanetti, 92, of Pittsfield died Saturday, January 6, 2018. 



He was born on October 4, 1925, in Pittsfield, son of Battista and Angelina Nugai Giovanetti. Louis was a graduate of Pittsfield High School class of 1943. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the US Navy as a fighter pilot, LT. JG on the USS Sicily CVE 118 Squadron VF 2E. After his service, he was part of the GE apprentice program at Williams College. He then worked at Marland Mold for 11 years and Sprague Electric in North Adams for 25 years, where he retired in 1985. 



After retiring, he formed his own company, Giovanetti Mold & Product Design, which provided design service for a majority of the local plastic companies. Louis was an active member of the Italian American Club, Skyline Country Club, and Berkshire Plastics Network. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross, RSVP, and the American Legion. He was a member of All Souls and St Joseph’s Churches.



Louis was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Bannie) Byrne Giovanetti. They were married for 62 years. 



He is survived by two sons, Kevin Giovanetti and his wife Lisa of Harrisonburg, Va., and Thomas Giovanetti and his wife Charlene of Pittsfield; four daughters, Mary Davidson and her husband Keith of South Egremont, Ann Plunkett of Pittsfield, Rose Giovanetti of Somerville, Mass.,, and Rita Giovanetti and her husband Abdelali Bourzgui of Pittsfield; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 



Louis was very dedicated to his family and his community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.



Funeral notice: Services will take place Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 9 a.m. from the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 414 North Street, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker C.S.S. officiating. 



Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, January 12, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
