Edward F. Carey, 82

February 13, 2018


LENOX DALE, Mass. — Edward F. Carey, 82, died Tuesday evening, February 13, 2018, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.



Born in Lenox Dale on March 3, 1935, the son of George and Charlotte Sires Carey, he attended grammar school in Lenox Dale and was a 1953 graduate of Lenox High School. He served in the US Army from September 15, 1955, until his honorable discharge on August 29, 1957.



Mr. Carey was employed as the Service Manager for the former Birchard Buick, later Slattery Buick, in Pittsfield, and retired from Haddad Buick in Lenox, where he had worked for several years.



He was a member of United Methodist Church of Lenox and the Conklin-Lane-Coakley VFW Post 1279.  An avid golfer, he was a member of Greenock Country Club and their Tuesday night men’s league for many years. He also enjoyed bowling, ice fishing and trapping, and played softball in a local league until he was 47. During high school he played football for Lee High and was All Berkshire in basketball and baseball for Lenox.



Mr. Carey and his wife, Carole Dellert Carey, were married April 15, 1961.



Besides his wife of Lenox Dale, he is survived by one son, Mark E. Carey and wife Laura of Stockbridge; one daughter, Deborah C. Decker and husband Mike of Durham, Conn.; grandchildren Amelia and Isabella Carey and Michael and Megan Decker; and one brother, Louis H. Carey and wife Carol of Lenox.



Funeral notice: The funeral of Mr. Edward F. Carey will be Monday, February 19, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Roche Funeral Home in Lenox with the Rev. Janet Deranian, Pastor of United Methodist Church of Lenox, officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.  



There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
