Fredrick J. Mastrogiovanni Sr., 77

July 27, 2018

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mr. Fredrick J. Mastrogiovanni Sr., 77, of 63 Scammell Ave., Pittsfield, died Friday morning, July 27, 2018, at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., on Oct. 17, 1940, the son of the late Joseph and Darlene Anderson Mastrogiovanni. Fred attended the local schools there and was a 1960 graduate of Shrewsbury High School. He was commissioned an officer in the Massachusetts National Guard upon graduating in 1966 from the former Massachusetts Military Academy.

His subsequent 23-year military career was primarily serving as a supply and transportation officer for the Massachusetts National Guard. He was called upon to serve throughout the Northeast as well as throughout the Eastern Seaboard. Fred retired as a Major with the National Guard due to the demands of his ever growing business here in Pittsfield.

Upon his arrival in the Berkshires in 1976, he established Berkshire Graphics Inc. , now located on Wahconah Street. Fred represented the A.B. Dick company here and was awarded a Canon Copier franchise in 1978. Berkshire Graphics is now one of the oldest independent Canon Dealership in the United States. Fred eventually added the Kyocera copier line as well. Fred was previously employed in sales and management with A.B. Dick Company in Waltham, serving the greater Boston area prior to coming to Pittsfield.

He attended Sacred Heart Church. Fred and his wife Joan especially enjoyed camping and traveling in their motorhome throughout New England and successfully completed two terrific cross country trips in the RV. Fred was very proud to tour around the Berkshires in his 1941 Lincoln Continental. Fred was especially proud of his membership in UNICO.

He is survived by his wife, the former Joan M. Pettograsso, with whom he would have celebrated their 54 wedding anniversary this coming Oct. 10. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Fredrick J. Mastrogiovanni Jr. and his wife Cindy of Hinsdale; his two daughters, Kimberly A. Bruce and her husband, Paul, of Dalton and his other daughter, Paige M. Torrey of Windsor; his sister, Ms. Phyllis Jolene Havalotti of New Braintree, Mass.; and his cherished grandchildren, Conor, Anthony and Katerina Bruce, Dominic Mastrogiovanni, and Hailey and Makayla Torrey.

His late son-in-law, Timothy T. Torrey, died in July 2013
