Mark H. Cross, 92

September 20, 2018


PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mark Horace Cross, 92, of Pittsfield, Mass., died Thursday, September 20, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. 



Born in Adams on April 25, 1926, the son of Arthur and Antoinette Girard Cross, he was a 1945 graduate of Adams High School and in 1950 completed the General Electric Draftsmen’s Apprentice Program. Mr. Cross was employed as a Draftsman at General Electric Company for 42 years retiring in 1988.



A World War II veteran, Mr. Cross enlisted with the United States Army on October 29, 1945, served as a Quartermaster, Medium Tank Crewman, and Occupational Counselor. He was honorably discharged on October 26, 1946.



His greatest joys were family parties, picnics, camping or any reason to spend time with family. 



Mr. Cross leaves the love of his life, his wife, the former Elinor R. Egan, whom he married February 19, 1955, in Notre Dame Church; a son, Mark H. (wife Christine) Cross Jr. of Pittsfield; four daughters, Susan A. (husband Scott) Ressler of Hinsdale, Cindy R. (husband Scott) Hinckley of Pittsfield, Sharon M. (husband Mark) Gratton of Pittsfield, and Karen E. (husband Mark) Losardo of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Estelle Tierney of Pittsfield. 



He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.



Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 24, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church celebrated by Rev. Christopher Fedoryshyn, administrator. Calling hours will be Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, both in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
