Carmelo A. Maffuccio, 87

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Carmelo Anthony Maffuccio, 87, of 35 South Carolina Avenue, Pittsfield, died Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care, where he had been a patient the past three months.



Born in Pittsfield on July 16, 1931, the son of Donato and Josephine Cerulli Maffuccio, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. A Korean War veteran, he enlisted with the United States Army on September 22, 1952, served more than a year overseas, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal (T) on July 24, 1954.



Mr. Maffuccio was employed by Harry’s Supermarket for many years retiring in 1996. He had been a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.



He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, going to the casinos with his brothers and sisters, and bowling.



Mr. Maffuccio leaves his wife, the former Marilyn T. Marley, whom he married October 29, 1960, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He is also survived by two sons, Daniel A. (wife Julie) Maffuccio of Dalton, and David F. Maffuccio of Pittsfield; a daughter, Darlene A. (husband Bill) Hermon of Pittsfield; a brother, Lorenzo Maffuccio of Lee; a sister, Virginia Maffuccio of Pittsfield; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Trevor, Katelyn, and Emily.



He was predeceased by two brothers, Raphaele and Frank Maffuccio; and two sisters, Mary Palma and Lucy Santolin.



The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Mt. Greylock Extended Care for the compassionate care given to Mr. Maffuccio and for the kindness shown to their family, as well.



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Carmelo Anthony Maffuccio will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home with Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor Emeritus of St. Charles Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.



Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
