Joanna "Blondie" Biernacki, 78, of 45 Hart St., Housatonic, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Poland on April 26, 1924, daughter of Wladyslawa and Teofili Budniak Zielinski, she was educated there. She emigrated in 1949 to Culpepper, W.Va., and moved to Housatonic in 1950.
Mrs. Biernacki was employed in the packaging department of Becton Dickinson & Co. in Canaan, Conn., retiring in 1986. During the 1960s, she worked at the former David Hats Corp. hat factory and the former Monument Mills.
She was a communicant of All Saints' Church in Housatonic and a member of its Rosary Solidarity. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and flower beds.
Her husband, Edward Biernacki, whom she married in November 1945, died Sept. 17, 1968.
She leaves two sons, Richard Biernacki of Sheffield and Thaddeus Biernacki of Housatonic; a daughter, Theresa Klimek of Pittsfield; three sisters, Maria Kulkkulka and Kazia Galazka, both of Ottawa, and Jessie Matuszczak of Klamath Falls, Ore., three grandsons and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Joanna Biernacki, who died Jan. 8, 2003, will be Friday, Jan. 10, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at All Saints' Church at 10.
Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 9, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
She also leaves her grandsons, Joseph and Brian Biernacki and Michael Klimek, and great-grandson Shane Joseph Biernacki. She was predeceased by a brother, Matthew Zielinski, and a sister, Helen Mankowski.
