Dayton F. Tynan

February 24, 2007

Dayton F. Tynan, 74, of 200 Melbourne Road, died yesterday at Springside of Pittsfield.

Born in Caldwell, N.J., on May 30, 1932, son of Dayton and Amy Decker Tynan, he was a 1950 graduate of Caldwell (N.J.) High School and a 1956 graduate of Oberlin (Ohio) College. He also attended Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., for a year and received a master's in music from Westminster Choir College, Ryder University, in Princeton, N.J., in 1963.

Mr. Tynan was employed by First Congregational Church of Dalton as organist and choir director for 15 years, beginning in 1974. For many years, he was also a private music teacher. He also was employed by Lewiston (N.J.) First Presbyterian Church as choir director for seven years.

He was a member of First Congregations Church of Dalton and of the American Guild Organists. He received a service master certificate and choir master degree from the American Organ Guild.

He and his wife, the former Sonia A. Forrest, were married Dec. 30, 1976.

Besides his wife, he leaves three stepsons, Scott Pickard of Pittsfield, Douglas Pickard of Hinsdale and Jonathan Pickard of Dalton; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Dayton F. Tynan, who died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Dalton, conducted by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor. A reception will follow the memorial service in the church hall.

There will be no calling hours, and burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Guardian Hospice, in care of Springside of Pittsfield, 255 Lebanon Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, Dalton, is handling arrangements. Dayton also will be lovingly missed by his daughters-in-law, Amanda, Dawn, Rebecca; former daughter-in-law Madeline; and a cousin, Connie Davidson.
