Biz Briefs: Greylock’s Billow Receives 'Volunteer of the Year'

Joanne Billow, Marketing Services manager at Greylock Federal Credit Union and Greylock Marketing Group in Pittsfield, has won a national award.

Volunteer award: The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Marketing and Business Development Council has recognized Joanne Billow, Marketing Services manager at Greylock Federal Credit Union and Greylock Marketing Group in Pittsfield, with a “Volunteer of the Year” Award.

The Volunteer of the Year is selected by the Council leadership and honors an individual who exemplifies excellence in credit union marketing. The award was presented during the Council’s annual meeting at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., in March.

“Joanne has worked hard over the years as a judge in the CUNA Diamond Awards and as a strong voice in the growth of the nationally known Marketing and Business Development Council’s Diamond Awards program," Greylock President and CEO John L. Bissell said. "It is gratifying to see her dedication to the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council recognized with this prestigious award.”

Billow has served on the Diamond Award judging team since 2012 and joined the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council in 2008. She has also judged the Hall of Fame Award, Marketing Professional of the Year Award and Excellence Awards.  Her 30+ years of award winning broadcasting, graphic design, media and copywriting experience make her an invaluable asset to the Diamond Awards committee and the Council.

Excellent award: The Better Business Bureau, serving Central and Western Massachusetts as well as Northeastern Connecticut, recognized Berkshire Bank with the 2016 Award for Marketplace Excellence in their Large Business category.

This award recognizes businesses for their commitment to ethical business practices, community involvement and for treating their customers, suppliers and employees with courtesy and respect.

In order to qualify to be considered for this award, a business needs to meet the following criteria: maintain high standards of behavior towards customers, employees and suppliers; have a history of ethical business practices and community involvement; be a for profit company that has been in business for a minimum of three years and be in the BBB service area; and have a satisfactory record with the BBB.

“Through our BBB accreditation, Berkshire Bank has been able to consistently communicate our commitment to delivering excellence to our customers and making a difference in the communities that we serve,” Tami Gunsch, executive vice president of Retail Banking, said.


Staff appreciation: Williams College will host its annual Appreciation Day, which honors staff members who have reached milestones in their service to the college, on May 3.

The celebration includes a luncheon for employees completing their 5th, 10th, 15th, or 20th year of service, and a dinner for employees celebrating their 25th, 30th, 35th, and 40th year of service, as well as those who are newly retired. The day is an opportunity for community members to offer thanks to the staff whose contributions uphold the college’s functionality and excellence.

Nancy Wojnicki, Wayne Hammond, and Linda McGraw are celebrating 40 years at the college, while Mark Phillips and Scott Duncan are celebrating 35 years.

Celebrating their 30th year of service are Diana Elvin, Julie Menard, Laurie Wiles, Deborah LaPine, Stacy Sylvester, Alison O’Grady, Pete Haig, Donna Santiago, John Gravel, John Morrissey and Robert Kelly.

Celebrating 25 years at the college are William Allen, Scott Huls, Robin Kibler, Susan Lefaver, Dorothy Lewis, Christine Maher, Michele Migdal, Ada Moreno, Pamela Richard, Timothy Roberts, Debra Rogers-Gillig, Douglas Rydell and Rachel Tassone.
