PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Board of Directors of Berkshire Children and Families has appointed Colleen White Holmes as president and CEO, beginning Aug. 7.

She assumes the position held by Carolyn Mower Burns, who died in November 2016. Berkshire Children and Families, with offices in Pittsfield and Hadley, is in its 130th year of providing support to children and families.

"From the moment I began learning about the work of Berkshire Children and Families, I had a good feeling," Holmes said. "The staff team is professional and caring, the children and families we serve are important and amazing, and the work is innovative and impactful. I couldn't be more proud and thrilled to be joining Berkshire Children and Families."

Holmes has been chief membership and strategy officer for the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts, having joined the organization in 2008. A leader of mission-driven work for children for much of her career, she has experience in many areas of nonprofit management, including strategic planning and development, human resources, marketing communications, programming and volunteerism. She holds a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and an MBA from American International College.

Holmes has served her community through various boards and councils and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Baystate Health Systems and on the steering committee of the Women's Leadership Council of United Way of Pioneer Valley. Holmes, a former professional dancer, established dance companies in New Jersey and Springfield, and continues to volunteer in the dance world as a teacher and choreographer.

"Colleen has the skills to connect to a wide demographic and to be the leading voice of our organization. Her abilities promise to augment the high levels of performance we have reached in all of our program areas," said Linda Conway, chairwoman of the Board of Directors said.
