Weather Whipping Up a Rainy Christmas Weekend
05:42PM / Thursday, December 20, 2018

The coming Christmas weekend may be more wet than white this year.

After a mild sunny day Thursday, there's rain in the forecast for much of the region with a flood advisory into the early hours of Friday.

Some areas could get up to 3 inches of rain, particularly in the higher terrain across the Berkshires. The National Weather Service that raises the possibility of modest river rises and possible flooding when it's combined with partial snowmelt.

Along with the rain comes wind, at least through the morning on Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory of sustained winds of up to 39 mph, strong enough to take down small trees and limbs. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible in the higher elevations.

But Accuweather is predicting temperatures in the 60s on Friday — a big change from the recent cold weather and snow we've been having since Thanksgiving.

Rain will continue sporadically through Friday and Saturday morning. The weather should take a turn on Sunday, getting a little colder, sunnier and with the potential for flurries on Monday.

So far there's no snow forecast for Christmas Day, but temperatures should be in the mid-30s — not too cold — and the sun will be peeking out for Christmas and the following days.
