NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Four companies working on innovations with health applications have been chosen for Lever's Berkshire Manufacturing Innovation Challenge (BMIC).

The winner will receive a $25,000 award to advance their business at the final virtual pitch competition in February 2021.

Over the next month, leaders from each participating company will work with Lever to refine their business plans, network with leaders in the manufacturing and medical industries, and attend virtual workshops to help them accelerate their business.

"We received a record number of applications this year; selecting four from this pool was a tough choice," said Brent Filson, Lever's Head of Innovation. "We are excited to see what these teams can do over the next few months. The final pitch competition will be very competitive and quite a show."

BMIC Finalists

Gencores

Founded by Jules Thiery and Melissa Forstell, Gencores combines advanced robotics, revolutionary 3D printing, and material science to produce lightweight, shock-absorbing composites at scale.

Kyttarinic Technologies, LLC

Kyttarinic Technologies is a biotech startup that develops products and technology with advanced biomaterials. Its initial product, Fogkicker, is a cellulose-based coating that prevents eyewear fogging (glasses, face shields, goggles) when wearing PPE face masks. Kyttarinic is founded by Dr. Kenneth Carter and James Capistran.

MedUX, LLC

MedUX LLC has worked hard over the past two years to develop its innovative, wearable approach to IV treatment and fluid resuscitation. Whether it be quality of life for home infusion or improving triage and transport for emergency response and the military, the need for a more portable means for IV treatment is crucial moving forward.

Zeptive

Zeptive's indoor air health monitoring system is designed to enable organizations such as hotels/bars/restaurants, fitness centers, schools, universities, and any other workspace to re-open and remain open. Based on Zeptive's wireless vape sensor, continuous measurement allows organizations to modify ventilation, filtration, and occupancy as needed to keep spaces safe.

This is Lever's third iteration of the BMIC. Past winners have included United Aircraft Technologies, manufacturer of lightweight, ergonomic thermoplastic clamps for aircraft wiring that uses artificial intelligence to improve safety, and Clean Crop Technologies, which developed a method of using ionized gases to eliminate a potent allergen from peanuts.
