 LENOX, Mass. Ventfort Hall will be decorated for Halloween weekend, Friday, Oct. 27 through Monday, Oct. 31, 2021. Guests are invited to wear their Halloween costumes or Halloween themed outfit at any event or visit over the course of the weekend. The mansion will be open from 10am-4pm on Friday for regular self-guided tour admission, as well as special extended hours for regular self-guided tours from 4 pm-7 pm on Friday evening just for the holiday weekend. LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that crews will be conducting overnight hour work finishing paving and bridge repair operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Lee, Becket, and Otis. The work will be conducted at various times and locations from Monday, Oct. 23 through Friday, Oct. 27. Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones.  SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Egremont’s special town meeting Saturday morning overwhelmingly rejected a plan that would have merged the Southern Berkshire Regional School District with the Berkshire Hills Regional School District. By a vote of 143-78, members said no to a new Southern Berkshire Hills Regional School District that would have joined the five towns in the SBRSD with the three in the BHRSD and eventually replaced the existing Mount Everett and Monument Mountain high schools with a new 9-12 school on the Monument Mountain campus. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A section of the Housatonic Rail Trail south of Main Street will be closed starting the week of Oct. 16, to make way for trail improvements that will improve conditions for accessibility, bikes, strollers and pedestrians. The closure begins at Main Street and runs approximately 3,100 feet south on the town-owned section of the trail, toward AmeriGas. Work will stop just north of the AmeriGas property, where the trail is privately owned. Public Works Superintendent Joe Aberdale said only essential trees alongside the trail will be removed to accommodate the project, and the tree removal plan is under review.
