Exhibit Opens at the Hillman Jackson Gallery at Simon's Rock

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Simon's Rock would like to invite the public to a new artistic experience by Zohar Lazar being held at the Hillman Jackson Gallery at the Daniel Arts Center on campus.    Lazar's showcase of drawings and paintings, entitled "Oh! McCann Tech Students Plan Charity Run for Maui Fire Relief

CHESHIRE, Mass. — The McCann Tech cross country team on Sept. 16 will host a 5-kilometer trail run and 1 mile walk to benefit victims of August's fire in Hawaii.   The Walk/Run for Maui fund-raiser will take place at Whitney's Farm on Ingalls Road (follow the dirt road past the U-Pick blueberries).   Check in on Saturday, Sept. 16, will be at 7:30 a.m. The 5K trail run begins at 8:30, and the stroller-friendly 1 mile walk begins at 9:30.   The cost to register is $20 in advance or $25 the day of registration. Warmer Temperatures This Labor Day Weekend

It will actually feel like summer this weekend with temperatures in the 80s.   Today Thursday, Aug. 31 there will be sunshine with temperatures in the low 70s.   The same can be expected Friday but with warmer temperatures in the high 70s, reports AccuWeather.   Saturday, Sept. 2 will be partly sunny with temperatures in the low 80s.   Sunday will be mostly sunny and more humid with temperatures again in the low 80s.   Monday will be in the mid-80s with mostly sunny skies, and Tuesday is set to be even warmer with temperatures possibly breaking into the 90s.

Great Barrington Receives Grant for Housing Rehab for Income-Eligible Homeowners

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Healey-Driscoll administration has awarded $1.35 million to fund housing rehabilitation for income-eligible Great Barrington homeowners.    The funds provide a 0 percent interest, deferred payment loan of up to $50,000, which is forgivable if the homeowner remains in the residence for at least 15 years.   "We are extremely grateful to the Governor and her administration for this grant award," said Town Manager Mark Pruhenski. Registration Open for Monument Cup 3-on-3 Soccer Tourney

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The 24th annual Monument Cup 3-on-3 soccer tournament returns on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Monument Mountain Regional High School.   The event features boys and girls divisions in the under-10, under-12 and under-14 age groups.   Teams of three to four players are guaranteed at least three matches. The top four teams in each division advance to the semifinals, with the championship matches played on the varsity field.   Teams are encouraged to wear their own handmade, creative uniforms.   Each division is limited to 16 teams. Stockbridge-Munsee Gets $2M to Reclaim Indigenous Land

Shannon Holsey, president of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, says the purchase of former indigenous lands will allow the tribe to reclaim a kinship with the land that will benefit future generations. 

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans is one of the first tribes to receive state Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness funding, a historical feat that will go toward the reclamation of indigenous homeland.

On Wednesday, the Healey-Driscoll administration announced the $31.5 million in grants for climate resilience implementation and planning throughout the state.

Housatonic Heritage Walk at Bidwell House

Great Barrington Opens Applications for Community Impact Fund Grants

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Community groups and organizations are invited to apply for grants from the town's Community Impact Fund, a town-administered fund composed of revenue from cannabis businesses in town.   Applications are due Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. More details and application paperwork can be found here.   For the 2023 fiscal year, the town has earmarked $500,000 for distribution among qualifying organizations, individuals, town committees and town departments seeking support for community benefit projects.
