LEE, Mass. — St. Mary's School third-grade teacher Amanda Reis has been selected as the August Teacher of the Month.    The Teacher of the Month series, in collaboration with Berkshire Community College, will feature distinguished teachers nominated by community members. Sandisfield Orchard offers a dozen types of apples for the picking. SANDISFIELD, Mass. — Sandisfield Orchard is preparing for the apple-picking season, while working on expansions to support the farm for years to come.   Owners Emily Melchoir and her husband, Calvin Rodman, have worked for the past three years to build up the orchard and its offerings.    Even though the couple didn't have a background in farming, they leaped to buy the New Hartford Road property because they wanted it to stay a farm and not run the risk of someone developing the land.   Since taking on the adventure with her husband and kids, Melchoir said the community has been a big

The Mount, Straw Dog Writers Guild Open Applications for Residency

LENOX, Mass. — The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home, is once again collaborating with Western Massachusetts' Straw Dog Writers Guild to offer a residency experience for nine emerging writers.    The residency focuses on writers who are developing their craft in the genres of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and plays. The residencies run weekly from March 1 - March 21, 2026. Three writers will be selected for each week. Residencies include lodging at a neighboring inn, a workspace at The Mount, breakfast, lunch, and a $500 stipend.   Applications opened on Sept. 1 and will close on Oct. 1, 2025, at 5:00 pm, or once 300 applications have been received. 2026

Market 32, Price Chopper and Customers Raise Funds for Muscular Dystrophy Association

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Market 32 and Price Chopper announced a total donation of $57,313.45 in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).    The recent in-store round-up campaign raised $47,313.45, and Market 32 and Price Chopper matched the fundraiser by providing an additional $10,000.00.
