BNRC Protects 109 Acres Along Webster Road in Tyringham

LENOX, Mass. — Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) has purchased 109 acres along both sides of Webster Road in Tyringham for conservation, strengthening a conservation corridor adjacent to Beartown State Forest and near the Appalachian Trail.    The acquisition, finalized on March 12, 2025, for $650,000, was made possible through funding from the Nion Robert Thieriot Foundation, Mass Audubon 30x30 Catalyst Fund, the Wyncote Foundation, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Land Acquisition for Forest Reserves Grant Program, and the support of private donors. This collaboration ensures important wildlife habitat remains intact and supports strategic land conservation

Del McCoury Band to Perform at Mahaiwe

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington will host the bluegrass band, the Del McCoury Band, on Saturday, May 10 at 8 p.m.

Led by bluegrass legend Del McCoury, the band has been a mainstay in the bluegrass world for over six decades. McCoury, an NEA National Heritage Fellow and member of the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, continues to carry the torch for traditional bluegrass music. Bishop Earns Conference Honor at St. Michael's

St. Michael's College first-year catcher and Drury High School graduate Brooke Bishop was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week in mid-April.   Bishop went .389 at the plate with a .667 slugging percentage and .450 on-base percentage in a 3-3 week for the Purple Knights to earn the honor on April 21.   Last week, St. Michael's was eliminated in the NE10 tournament with a 2-0 loss to top-seed Pace, the No. 15-ranked team in Division II at the time.   Needing two wins against Pace to advance in the tourney, St. Michael's won Game 1, when Bishop went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Triplex Cinema to Feature Film Series with Music Supervisor Randall Poster

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.— The Triplex Cinema will host a special film series featuring music supervisor Randall Poster from Friday, May 9, through Sunday, May 11. Each day will feature two film screenings, paired by Poster.

West Stockbridge Lane and Ramp Closures for Bridge and Guardrail Work

BOSTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved, with several conditions, the General Electric Company's Revised On-Site and Off-Site Transportation and Disposal Plan. GE's revised plan maximizes the use of rail and hydraulic pumping for the transport of sediments and soils in and along the Housatonic River that are contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls.   Approximately 75 percent to 80 percent of the material to be removed from the river will be transported hydraulically without the need for any trucks. Triplex Cinema and Great Barrington Libraries Announce "Banned Books on Film" Series

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Triplex Cinema and the Great Barrington Public Libraries have announced a new film series titled "Banned Books on Film."

The series will commence on Saturday, May 4, at 4:00 p.m. with a screening of Francois Truffaut’s 1966 film "Fahrenheit 451", an adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s 1953 dystopian novel. A discussion will follow the screening. Tickets are available for purchase at www.thetriplex.com. The Great Barrington Friends of the Library is sponsoring the series, and copies of Bradbury's novel are available for borrowing at Mason Library.
