MassDot Advisory: South County Overnight and Daytime Construction on I-9003:51PM / Monday, October 06, 2025 | | STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing it will be performing overnight drainage structure cleaning and daytime bridge painting, guardrail repairs, and bridge repair work on I-90 eastbound and westbound in the towns of Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, Becket, Blandford, Montgomery, and Russell. All work will be completed by 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 ahead of the holiday weekend. Man Killed in Motorcycle-Moose Collision on Route 702:41PM / Monday, October 06, 2025 | | GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday night after striking a moose on Route 7 in Great Barrington, an incident that triggered a subsequent two-car collision in the northbound lane. On Thursday, Oct. 2, at 10:17 p.m. a 911 call was placed reporting a motorcycle collision on Route 7 between the Great Barrington Recycling Center and the Monument Mountain Trustees Reservation parking lot. The motorcyclist was later identified as Wyeth Curtis of Great Barrington, who was operating a Kawasaki. MOUNT WASHINGTON, Mass. — The nearly 100-year-old Becker Pond Dam that is failing and deemed a public safety concern will be removed. The dam is located in the Nature Conservancy's 1,500-acre Mount Plantain Preserve. Closed to the public since 2016, the 95-foot earthen embankment dam will now be removed, beginning in November 2025, and eventually a new, improved walking trail will provide access there. The Becker Pond Dam is located on an unnamed stream that flows into Sage's Ravine, a popular walking and hiking area in Sheffield in the Southern Berkshires, that empties into Schenob Brook.
