MassDOT: South County Daytime Paving and Bridge Work on I-90

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing it will be performing daytime paving and bridge work on I-90 eastbound and westbound in the towns of Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, Becket, Montgomery, and Russell.

All work is weather dependent and will take place at the following locations and times:

Stockbridge/West Stockbridge:

Paving work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound and westbound from mile marker 0.0 to mile marker 7.8 from Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Bridge work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound from mile marker 0.0 to mile marker 10.0 from Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct.

Organizers Preview Upcoming 'No Kings' Rallies

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— Almost ten "No Kings" rallies will take place around Berkshire County on Saturday to oppose actions taken by the Trump Administration. 

On Wednesday, organizers gathered in front of the Silvio O. Conte Federal Building to discuss why they will be protesting.  Community members said they were concerned about Immigration and Customs Enforcement's deployment into cities, threats to health insurance and education, and preserving the nation's civil rights, among other issues.

Berkshire Community Mobilizes for Harm Reduction 'Days of Action'

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, over two dozen community members will participate in a weekend-long Harm Reduction "Days of Action" across Berkshire County.    Volunteers will distribute lifesaving overdose prevention supplies, resources, and knowledge to residents in areas with higher ratios of opioid-related emergency 911 calls.   Members from Berkshire County public health agencies and substance use awareness groups will partner with community members to raise awareness of changes in the opioid and stimulant supply, particularly among people who use more recreationally. Becker Pond Dam to be Removed to Help Local River System

MT. WASHINGTON, Mass. — The Becker Pond Dam is slated for removal after almost a decade of work from The Nature Conservancy (TNC).

"We've been working on this dam removal for seven years, and are very excited that we're about to start construction in November," said Karen Lombard, The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) Director of Stewardship and Restoration. 

The dam has been closed since 2016 after TNC recognized it as a hazard to the public. The dam is located on TNC’s 1,500-acre Mount Plantain Reserve.

"We were doing some routine monitoring of the Preserve, as we do every year in 2016 and we discovered that the dam was failing and could be a hazard.

Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day is being observed Monday, Oct. 13. As Columbus Day, it commemorates Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas on Oct. 12, 1492. As Indigenous Peoples Day, it commemorates the harm to their cultures and communities that followed Columbus' arrival. 

Columbus' voyage had been celebrated on significant anniversaries but did not become an official holiday until it was recognized by Colorado in 1905. It was declared a federal holiday in 1937.
