 MONTEREY, Mass. — Join the Monterey Historical Society, Monterey Library and the Bidwell House Museum for a celebration of the 250th anniversary of Henry Knox's Noble Trail of Artillery through the Southern Berkshires. Beginning in December of 1775 from Fort Ticonderoga in New York, 25-year-old Henry Knox led an expedition to move 60 tons of captured British artillery to the Continental army in Boston in order to force the British to evacuate the city. Knox's journey took three months and came through the Berkshires in January 1776, during the depths of winter, using little more than ox and horse-drawn sledges and manpower.  SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Environmental Action Team welcomes the first Green Drinks speaker of 2026, Zach Adams of Trout Unlimited. Adams will share about this summer's stream restoration project on the Konkapot River on Jan. 14. This project both created habitat in the Konkapot River and stabilized the stream bank to prevent Hartsville-Mill River Road from washing out in the next 5 years. This project required 80+ trees with root wads, tons of boulders, and a lot of adaptability. Adams will share photos and stories about this fairly unique project in Massachusetts.  GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The nation's 250th anniversary starts on Saturday with the commemoration of Col. Henry Knox's train of artillery into Massachusetts. In December 1775, at the direction of General George Washington, 25-year-old Knox led an expedition to retrieve captured British cannons from Fort Ticonderoga in New York.
