Photo Event to Support Berkshire Works Therapy Herd

RICHMOND, Mass. — Berkshire HorseWorks is inviting the community to its Annual "Romance at the Ranch" event on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The pre-Valentine's Day gathering offers participants the chance to take unique photos with rescued horses and donkeys while supporting a good cause.

The event, held at Berkshire HorseWorks’ facility at 101 Patton Road in Richmond, will feature hot cocoa, cookies, and a raffle to win an equine activity. A suggested donation of $25 will go directly toward medical care and food for the therapy herd.

Berkshire Bach Society Presents Renée Anne Louprette in Organ Recital

HOUSATONIC, Mass. — The Berkshire Bach Society is set to present the first event in its Organ Masters series with a recital by Renée Anne Louprette on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

The recital will take place at the historic UU Meeting House in Housatonic, showcasing the 1893 Johnson Organ.

Louprette's program, titled Best of Bach—The Great Organ Works, will feature some of Bach's most iconic organ pieces, including the renowned Toccata in D minor, BWV 565 and several transcriptions from his cantatas, such as Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Sheep May Safely Graze, and Sleepers Awake. MassDOT: Becket Bridge Painting

BECKET, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing bridge painting operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 18.4.    The work will take place from Monday, Feb. 3, through Friday, Feb. 7, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.   Drivers traveling through these areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.    Appropriate signage and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work areas.    All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.

Science, Art Program Offered for School Break

EGREMONT, Mass. — Flying Cloud Institute and Greenagers will once again hold a science and art exploration program during the February school break for children aged 7 to 13 years. It runs Feb. 17 - 20 from 9 to 3:30 (with early drop-off at 8:30 a.m.), at the April Hill Education and Conservation Center in South Egremont.   Participants will engage in science investigations, art projects, engineering challenges, and nature explorations. Sheffield Land Trust Awarded MassWildlife Habitat Management Grant

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — The Sheffield Land Trust has been awarded $28,150 from MassWildlife to treat invasive species at The Schenob Brook Preserve, a large calcareous wetland complex surrounding Schenob Brook.    Sheffield was one of the communities that was awarded a grant to restore critical wildlife habitat.   The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $325,000 in grants to restore approximately 520 acres of wildlife habitat across Massachusetts. Landowners Play Vital Role Creating Habitat for Declining Native Wildlife

Mass Wildlife is partnering with private landowners to create habitats for the native species, which is found in South Berkshire.  BECKET, Mass. — The New England cottontail, the only native rabbit in the region, thrives in dense young forests and shrublands.    However, this habitat is disappearing across Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and eastern New York, putting the species at risk. Pittsfield Community Radio Begins South Berkshire Broadcasts

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Local radio programming from Pittsfield Community Radio, WTBR-FM, can now be heard on 88.1 MHz in Lee, Lenox, Stockbridge, and neighboring South Berkshire towns, in addition to 89.7 MHz in Pittsfield and central Berkshire County.    The new FM radio signal, with call letters WSBR, was granted a license by the Federal Communications Commission on Jan. 14, 2025, after a three-year planning and construction process.    The new signal is a full-power Class-A FM radio station licensed to Pittsfield Community Cable Broadcasting, Inc., the parent organization of Pittsfield Community Television and WTBR-FM.  The city of license is Lee and

McCandless Staying as DuBois Middle School Principal

Berkshire HorseWorks Secures Grants to Support Literacy, Mental Health Programs

RICHMOND, Mass. — Berkshire HorseWorks has received funding from the Berkshire Taconic Foundation to support its Eagala Model experiential programs, Ranch Life 101 and Horse Powered Reading.   Grants from the Central Berkshire Fund, Greylock ABC Fund, and William J. & Margery S. Barrett Fund will provide access to underserved children across Berkshire County.   The Central Berkshire Fund granted $5,000 to fund scholarships for seven children from various towns, while the William J. & Margery S.
