Dear Berkshire Community, 

It's now been four weeks since we were made to realize the palpable community spirit very much thriving throughout our larger community.

In early December you might recall the powerful three-day snowstorm and below-freezing conditions that hit the region stronger than most in recent memory. As a lover of winter and snow that first morning I took pictures and sent them to family who I hoped would see some snow when they came for Christmas.

Berkshire Christmas Tree Will Be Used in Habitat Houses

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Norway spruce planted in their front yard in 1967 by Earl and Lesley Albert will end its run as the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree on Saturday.    Carolyn Valli, CEO of Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity, will light the tree in New York City for the final time on Saturday. That's because the lumber from the 74-foot tall spruce will donated to the nonprofit.   "We are so proud to be the recipient of the milled lumber from this year's tree," Central Berkshire Habitat posted on its Facebook page.   "We are also thankful to the

Nonprofit Center of the Berkshires Awarded $50K Barr Foundation Grant

Southern Berkshire Public Health Collaborative Vaccine Clinic

LENOX, Mass. — The Southern Berkshire Public Health Collaborative will hold a vaccine clinic on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. Ann Church in Lenox.   The clinic aims to provide COVID-19 vaccines for individuals who contracted the virus this past summer and were previously ineligible for vaccination, as well as for families and people who cannot attend weekday clinics. The event is open to everyone.   COVID-19 vaccines, including Pfizer doses, will be available for individuals aged six months and older. Local Figure Skaters Compete at Bay State Games

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Pittsfield's Sophia Collins Sunday led a sweep of the podium for the Christmas Brook Figure Skating Club in one her events at the Bay State Winter Games.   Hundreds of figure skaters from around the commonwealth and around New England participated in the annual event.   Collins took a gold medal in the Aspire 1 Girls Free Skate Group D on Sunday morning at Williams College's Lansing Chapman Rink.   Teammates Mila Juras of Cheshire and Alyse Wright of Pittsfield took bronze and silver, respectively, in the event.   Christmas Brook FSC, which hosted the three-day competition, earned eight gold medals in U.S. Figure Skating-sanctioned

Stockbridge Grange to Host Community Dinner

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Stockbridge Grange will host a community dinner on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, featuring Swedish meatballs with egg noodles and vegetables. Dessert options include chocolate cream or lemon meringue pie.

The dinner is take-out only, with pickup available from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Stockbridge Grange Hall, located at 51 Church Street in Stockbridge. The cost is $15.00 per person.

House and Senate Kick Off 194th Session

Leigh Davis was sworn in at the State House on Wednesday morning. She begins her first term representing Southern Berkshire. 

BOSTON — The start of 2025 ushered new state House and Senate terms, with members sworn in at the State House on Wednesday.

The 194th General Court session will see new representation from Berkshire County as Leigh Davis was elected to represent the Third Berkshire District on Nov. 5. She replaces longtime state Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli, who did not run for a 12th two-year term.

Davis said she is ready to get to work for the district and the commonwealth.
