 LEE, Mass. — Jayne Smith, shared services manager for the Southern Berkshire Public Health Collaborative, has been nominated as August's Community Hero of the Month. The Community Hero of the Month series recognizes individuals and organizations that have significantly impacted their community. The series is in partnership with Haddad Auto and will run for the next four months. Nominate a community hero here. Smith has been working for the Southern Berkshire Public Health Collaborative from very early on in its inception.  GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Triplex Cinema and the Dr. Robert C and Tina Sohn Foundation announced the second film in their summer environmental series. "Into the Weeds" is a critically acclaimed documentary about Roundup herbicide and its effects on the environment, and will screen on Aug. 20 at 7:15pm. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Healey-Driscoll administration has awarded $1.375 million to fund housing rehabilitation projects for income-eligible residents of Great Barrington, Egremont and Stockbridge.
The funds provide a 0 percent interest, deferred payment loan of up to $50,000, which is forgivable if the homeowner remains in the residence for at least 15 years. Applications will be made available before the end of this calendar year.
Funds cover building code repairs, weatherization, lead paint abatement, handicap accessibility and emergency funds for leaking roofs, failed furnaces and septic systems.

 STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Stockbridge Summer Arts and Crafts Show, now in its thirty second year, will be held Aug. 17 and 18 on the grounds of the Town Offices and Bidwell Park, 50 Main Street. The event is open free to the public. Over 85 jury-selected artists and crafters will display their work ranging from paintings to ceramics, firberware to jewelry, sculpture to photography. West Stockbridge will be filled with zucchini on Saturday so don't leave your car unlocked. WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Zucchini, courgette, summer squash — whatever you call it. West Stockbridge will be full of the vegetable (or fruit) on Saturday.
Volunteers are busy preparing homemade booths, decorations, games, and more for the annual Zucchini Festival from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The first was held in 2003, ran for a decade, and then went on hiatus until it was brought back last year.
Sponsored by the West Stockbridge Cultural Council, the festival has drawn thousands to the town's center over the years and is a testament to its tight-knit community. Chris

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that crews will be conducting nighttime milling, guardrail, and bridge work at various locations on I-90 eastbound and westbound during the week of Monday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Aug. 16. Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations, and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones.
