Grant Supports Berkshires Ecological Restoration, Climate Resilience

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) recently received a grant to support healthy aquatic systems and address climate change in the Berkshires.?   Funds were awarded by the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game's Division of Ecological Restoration (DER) through its Regional Restoration Partnerships Program, which helps nonprofits and Regional Planning Agencies build capacity and advance ecological and aquatic restoration work.     The nearly $200,000 grant will further support the Berkshire Clean, Cold, and Connected (BCCC) Restoration Partnership, a network of key stakeholders in Berkshire County working to keep the Hoosic,

Becket Guardrail Repair Operations

BECKET, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be conducting guardrail repair operations on I-90 westbound in Blandford and Becket, on Sunday, Dec. 17.    Work will take place on I-90 westbound at mile marker 30.0 in Blandford, with a right lane closure in place, and at mile marker 17.0 in Becket, with a shoulder closure in place. Work will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, and conclude by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18.   Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.?  ?  All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency.?

MassDOT Secures Funds for Enhanced Boston-Albany Passenger Rail

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that up to $500,000 has been awarded to the Rail and Transit Division through the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) Corridor Identification and Development Program (Corridor ID) to support planning for additional train service connecting Boston and Albany, New York through Springfield.    This corridor would provide up to eight daily round-trip passenger trains on an existing alignment owned by CSX Transportation. Great Barrington Swaps Out Streetlights with LED Bulbs

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town will save more than $100,000 in the first year following the replacement of 470 streetlights with LED illumination.    The swap-out is now under way and LED fixtures now light up a portion of the town.   The savings in the first year include a one-time energy efficiency rebate of $52,895, and ongoing savings in the following years will be $49,566.15.
