MassDOT Advisory: South County Construction Operations

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced construction operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound. Sandy McKnight Songwriters Fund Songwriter Series

MassDOT Advisory: West Stockbridge Shoulder Closure

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced a shoulder closure will occur on I-90 westbound at mile marker 3.0 in West Stockbridge for guardrail repair work on Friday, Jan. 3, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.    Drivers traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.    Appropriate signage and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.    All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.

House and Senate Kick Off 194th Session

Leigh Davis was sworn in at the State House on Wednesday morning. She begins her first term representing Southern Berkshire. 

BOSTON — The start of 2025 ushered new state House and Senate terms, with members sworn in at the State House on Wednesday.

The 194th General Court session will see new representation from Berkshire County as Leigh Davis was elected to represent the Third Berkshire District on Nov. 5. She replaces longtime state Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli, who did not run for a 12th two-year term.

Davis said she is ready to get to work for the district and the commonwealth.

Man Killed in Great Barrington Accident

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A local man was killed Thursday evening when his pickup rolled over on Monument Valley Road.   Louis C. Muller, 62, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.    The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. in the area of 140 Monument Valley Road. Police say preliminary findings indicate Muller's 2015 GMC pickup was traveling south when it veered off and struck the embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over.    Muller was the driver and sole occupant at the time of the crash; no other vehicles were involved.    Police Chief Paul E. Businesses, schools and government offices will be taking breaks next week as the nation celebrates Christmas and New Year's. Christmas falls on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, and New Year's Day on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. 

Christmas is now a state holiday but it wasn't always. The General Court under the control of the Puritans outlawed the holiday in 1659.

Tri-Town Health Department Relocation

LEE, Mass. — The Tri-Town Health Department offices will be closed to the public from Jan. 2, 2025, through Jan. 10, 2025, as the department and its offices will relocate to Stockbridge Town Offices (50 Main Street Stockbridge).   While staff will be working and available by phone and email, the online permitting system will be accessible.
