Berkshire Grown Indoor Winter Farmers Market Season Begins

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — In Great Barrington, the first in the season of six indoor Winter Farmers Markets will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Housy Dome (Housatonic Community Center).   Starting in December the five remaining indoor markets will run every third Saturday through April 19, 2025. The Housy Dome is located at 1064 Main Street in Housatonic and is included on the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority BRTA route #21.   In North County, the Winter Farmers Market will take place at Greylock WORKS in North Adams on Sunday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Dec. 22, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. 2024 Berkshire Theatre Critics Award Winners Announced

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The 2024 Berkshire Theatre Critics Awards, aka The Berkies, were presented on Monday, Nov. 11 in the Zion Lutheran Church Community Room in Pittsfield.

Presenters included J. Peter Bergman, Paul Sugarman, Mark G. Auerbach, Macey G. Levin, Barbara Waldinger, and Paula Kaplan-Reiss. The ceremony opened this year with a special opening number written and performed by Paula Kaplan-Reiss, with Gary P. Kaplan at the piano. Patrick White, local actor, director, and founder of Harbinger Theatre, announced plans for The Capital Region Festival of Theatre, scheduled for June of 2025.

Veterans Day Ceremonies and Holiday Hours

An image of the 353rd Infantry in France taken two minutes before the armistice ending World War I went into effect.

Veterans Day falls on Monday, Nov. 11, and will be observed as a state and federal holiday.

The federal holiday is to commemorate the service of the nation's military veterans in ensuring peace.

It was first known as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. In recognition of the efforts of World War II veterans, President Eisenhower in 1954 signed legislation creating Veterans Day with the goal of honoring all American veterans.

Lee Chamber of Commerce Celebrates 100 Years

Susan Gore was this year's Volunteer of the Year for her more than 30 years with the Lee Food Pantry. 

LEE, Mass. — For 100 years, the Lee Chamber of Commerce has promoted business in the small, quaint town right off the Massachusetts Turnpike.

In the last year, the chamber's membership grew from 65 to more than 105 — surpassing its centennial goal of 100 members. This and other feats were celebrated during its annual meeting on Monday at Greenock Country Club.

"It feels wonderful just to see the town of Lee thriving and the Chamber doing so well and having so many people involved," Executive Director Kathy DeVarennes said.
