Teams Sought for 25th Monument Cup

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Registration is ongoing for the 25th annual Monument Cup 3-on-3 youth soccer tournament.   The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29, at Monument Mountain Regional High School.   Teams of up to four players are eligible to compete in boys and girls divisions in the under-10, under-12 and under-14 age groups.   The registration fee is $100 per team, and all teams are guaranteed at least three matches with the top four teams in each division advancing to the semi-finals.   Space is limited. Each division is capped at 16 teams.   The final match in each of the six divisions will be played on Monument Mountain's varsity soccer

Kilpatrick Athletic Center launches SwimAmerica Lessons

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Kilpatrick Athletic Center (KAC) has partnered with SwimAmerica to launch a series of Fall 2024 swimming lessons to the community.   SwimAmerica, a national learn-to-swim program designed to teach new swimmers endurance and technique, works with coaches and athletic trainers to offer lessons to their communities, including community members beginning their training at the age of three.    "Our goal in SwimAmerica is to teach water safety skills and excellent swimming technique. The Adams Lions Club will sell cookout fare, and Crumb Bakery will sell homemade treats.   There will also be free games for children.    Admission is $5 for adults and is free for children 12

Pre-Registration Open for South County SBPHC Vaccine Clinics

PIttsfield Resident Walking to Raise Money for Jimmy Fund

BOSTON -- Pittsfield resident Pam Malumphy, along with thousands of other walkers, will participate in the Boston Marathon Jimm Fund Walk on Sunday, Oct. 6.   The annual event unites the community to raise funds to support all forms of adult and pediatric care and research at the nation’s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Great Barrington's Davis Wins House Primary

Leigh Davis will run on the Democratic party line in November to fill the 3rd Berkshire House seat being vacated by William "Smitty" Pignatelli.   At just after 10:30 on Tuesday evening, with 97 percent of the votes counted, the Associated Press called the Democratic primary for Davis, a member of the Great Barrington Select Board.   She had 56 percent of the votes, well ahead of her nearest challenger, Patrick White, who had 37 percent. Nighttime Construction Operations in South County

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that crews will be conducting nighttime milling, paving, guardrail, and bridge repair work at various locations on I-90 eastbound and westbound during the week of Tuesday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept. 6.   Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations, and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones. The schedule for the work and lane closures is as follows:   Otis/Blandford Milling and paving operations will be conducted on I-90 eastbound from mile marker 22.0 to 27.0 on Tuesday night, Sept. 3, and Wednesday night, Sept. 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

ADAMS, Mass. -- An eight-mile, mostly uphill climb to the the highest point in the commonwealth is enough of a challenge for any runner.   For Mount Greylock Regional School senior Rafael Mellow-Bartels, Sunday brought another problem.   "I think, for me, the main challenge was just running without anybody around me," Mellow-Bartels said after completing the 48th annual Mount Greylock Road Race.   "It was kind of foggy for the last two miles, so I couldn't see anybody. Dewey Hall Dahlia Festival

Pickleball Tournament to Benifit Berkshire Bounty
