Daniel Manacher Prize for Young Artists Winners Announced

SANDISFIELD, Mass. — The Sandisfield Arts Center announced the winners of the 3rd Annual Daniel Manacher Prize for Young Artists.    Aidan White, Mico Aldmar Mendoza, and Warwick Willow were selected by Juror Josephine Halvorson, an accomplished artist and the Chair of the MFA Program in Painting at Boston University's College of Fine Art. Each winner receives $400 in support of their art practice, as well as a group show of their work at the Sandisfield Arts Center. Meeting on Potential Purchase of Housatonic Water Works

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town will set an October outreach meeting to gain residents' feedback on draft findings from an investigation into the feasibility of the town acquiring and operating Housatonic Water Works.    The decision over a town acquisition of HWW would ultimately be made by voters at a town meeting.    The outreach discussion will follow several years of legal and financial study into the town's possible acquisition of the water company, due to water quality issues for many HWW customers. Triplex Cinema Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Lee Represents Massachusetts in 50 in 50 Mural Project

Fairview Hospital Receives Awards for Stroke Care

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Fairview Hospital has been twice recognized for its stroke care by the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.    Berkshire Health Systems said Fairview was honored for "Achieving Door to CT Less Than or Equal to 25 Minutes From Arrival for at Least 85 percent of Stroke Patients" and "Dysphagia Screening Greater Than or Equal to 90 percent."   The Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program is a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded quality improvement collaborative administered by DPH that supports Primary Stroke Service hospitals.   The

Presumed Drowning of Minor Being Investigated

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Authorities are investigating the presumed drowning of a 14-year-old at Benedict Pond on Wednesday afternoon.    According to Great Barrington Police, first responders received a 911 call shortly before 2 p.m. of a teen who was unaccounted for in the pond's beach area.    The youth was found unresponsive in the water prior to emergency personnel arriving. Several people assisted in removing the victim from the water and CPR was immediately started. The victim was transported to Fairview Hospital, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.     The Berkshire District Attorney's Office is actively investigating the death

BCArc’s Golf Event Raises Funds for Individuals with Disabilities

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Berkshire County Arc raised $45,000 at its 29th annual Golf Classic held this summer at Berkshire Hills Country Club.   The funds raised from the event go directly to individuals with disabilities for activities such as art classes, medical equipment, wheelchair swings, concerts, assistive technology, and dream trips to places like Disney, Celtics games, and deep-sea fishing.   The money also goes to scholarships to area high school students planning to pursue human service careers.   The lead supporters of the event this year were Berkshire Bank, Health New England, Greylock Federal Credit Union,  Notch Insurance Group, Synagex Modern IT, and

Great Barrington, Mass. — Josh Risen has been promoted to the position of Great Barrington town clerk, one of several new appointments in Town Hall.    Risen joined the town in September 2023 as office administrator for the town manager and selectboard, after working in administrative roles in the town of Sheffield. He earned a law degree from Western New England University Law School and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2011. A Thousand Flock to Designer Showcase Fundraiser at Cassilis Farm

NEW MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — More than a thousand visitors toured the decked-out halls of Cassilis Farm last month in support of the affordable housing development.

Construct Inc. held its first Designer Showcase exhibition in the Gilded Age estate throughout June, showcasing over a dozen creatives' work through temporary room transformations themed to "Nature in the Berkshires."  The event supported the nonprofit's effort to convert the property into 11 affordable housing units.

MassDOT: South County Road Work

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing crews will be conducting nighttime and daytime paving, guardrail work, and bridge repair operations at various locations and times on I-90 eastbound and westbound during the week of Monday, July 15.

Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations, and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones. The schedule for the work and lane closures is as follows:
