Card Pond Party Postponed Until July

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The town will hold a party celebrating the opening of Card Pond for the season on  July 23.   The party starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.   There will be live music, food, and beach and yard games.   This is a free community event sponsored by West Stockbridge Parks and Recreation.   The party was initially planned for June 25 but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Striking Out Cancer Event Moved to July 1

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- After Saturday's rain forced a postponement, the Striking Out in the Berkshires Jimmy Fund fund-raiser will try again on Saturday, July 1 at Clapp Park.   Players of any ability are welcome to participate in a charity baseball and softball games.   So are players with no ability at all.   "I've had some people call and text me and ask, 'Do you have to be a baseball player?' Great Barrington Opens Outdoor Dining Downtown

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Summer outdoor dining on Railroad Street and other downtown locations begins this year on Friday, June 30 at 5:30 p.m.    Outdoor dining takes place each weekend through Labor Day, and will run simultaneously with Berkshire Busk! street music performances and the Great Barrington Concert Series at the Town Hall gazebo.   On July 4 and Labor Day weekends, Railroad Street will be closed Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting at 5:30 p.m. On non-holiday weekends, the street will be closed Fridays and Saturdays only.   Any cars parked on Railroad Street after 5:30 p.m. on outdoor dining days through Labor Day weekend will be towed.

Pay Equity Study Calls For Better Compensation in Arts Sector

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The longevity of arts organizations depends on properly compensating employees, sector professionals say.

Last week, the findings of a regional pay equity study led by various local arts organizations were revealed at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.

Project consultant Aron Goldman described the results as "bleak and sobering."

"As long as working in the arts is considered a privilege, only the privileged get to work in this field," he said. "The result isn't just unconscionable, though it is that. It really diminishes the quality

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing crews will be conducting overnight and daytime paving operations and bridge guardrail, and drainage repair work on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Montgomery, Russell, Lee, Becket, and West Stockbridge.    The scheduled work will require some lane and shoulder closures, and is scheduled to take place as follows:   Montgomery/Russell Bridge repair work will be conducted nightly on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 36.0 from Sunday, June 25, to Friday, June 30, during overnight hours from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning.  All work is anticipated to conclude by

With warmer temperatures and high humidity this weekend, expect some thunderstorms.

Thursday, June 22 should be mostly pleasant with a high of 77. Sunshine will give way to clouds and some possible showers this afternoon, according to Accuweather.

Expect similar temperatures Friday but with more clouds. A light shower can be expected in the afternoon. Showers will continue on and off throughout the night. There is a chance scattered thunderstorms.

On Saturday, June 24 you can anticipate showers and a thunderstorm in the morning becoming more widespread as the day continues, according to the Weather Channel. The same can be expected Sunday so batten down the hatches.

Berkshire Agricultural Ventures Expands SNAP Program With Grants

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Berkshire Agriculture Ventures (BAV) has awarded over $140,000 in grants to support SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Access Program) matching programs at ten Berkshire-area farmers markets.    This financial assistance plays a role in bolstering food equity and ensuring that all community members have access to fresh, local, and nutrient-dense food, especially at a time when SNAP benefits nation-wide have been cut to pre-pandemic levels, according to a press release.   Through BAV's Market Match Fund, an economic development and food access program, funding is provided to farmers markets to enhance the effectiveness of SNAP benefits throughout

County Youth Soccer League Wraps Up Spring Season

LENOX, Mass. -- Three Berkshire County Youth Soccer League teams have qualified for the Massachusettts Tournament of Champions this weekend in Lancaster.   Two girls teams and one boys team are advancing to the state tourney based on their performance throughout the spring: the 7th- and 8th-grade Lenox Gold girls, the 5th- and 6th-grade North Adams Breakers girls and the 5th- and 6th-grade Williamstown Vipers boys.   The BCYSL held its season-ending tournament on Saturday at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School, with championships decided in seven different groups.   Winners included:   Boys 5/6 B-Cup - Williamstown 1, Lenox 1 (Williamstown wins on penalty kicks).
