Red Lion Inn Celebrates 250 Years

The inn, not always called the Red Lion, has stood at the corner of Main and South streets in Stockbridge since 1773. Supposedly Ethan Allen stopped by along with a host of presidents, literary heavyweights, movie stars, singers and other celebrities. 

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The community toasted 250 years of the Red Lion Inn and hoped for many more at a celebration last week. 

While the storied inn has a long history in Stockbridge, opening as a tavern just a few decades after the town was incorporated, it also has a long history in the Fitzpatrick family.

CHP Marks Completion of Lee Family Practice Renovation

The practice sacrificed office space to accommodate new patient rooms when costs for the renovation project grew.  LEE,Mass. — Community Health Programs Inc. celebrated the completion of its long awaited expansion of Lee Family Practice.    The nearly $1.1 million project was funded by CHP and by a federal Health Resources and Services Administration grant.    The health center program was approved for the grant seven years ago but the project was delayed because of the costs, scope negotiations and the pandemic. Housatonic Heritage Walk: Monterey Mills

Housatonic Water Works DPU Hearing on Rate Hike Request

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town urges Housatonic Water Works (HWW) customers to attend the state Department of Public Utilities (DPU) hearing on HWW's 120 percent rate increase request, on Sept. 26, 7 p.m.   The DPU hearing will be held at Monument Mountain Regional High School.   Due to persistent water quality issues within the HWW system, the town has requested intervener status for the rate case, in order to represent the interests of the town. The HWW is not a town-owned water system; it is a privately owned and operated utility.   The HWW's rate increase would mean that the average HWW customer's bill would rise from $746 to $1,641. LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that crews will be conducting daytime and overnight hour pavement milling, slope stabilization, bridge and drainage repair operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Becket, Otis, Lee, West Stockbridge, Stockbridge, and Blandford.     The work will be conducted at various times and locations from Monday, Sept. 18, through Friday, Sept 22.    Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones.  The schedule for the work and lane closures will be as follows:    Becket/Otis  Slope
