 LEE, Mass. — U.S. Rep. Richard Neal and U.S Sen. Edward Markey shared the reflections on the nation's political climate during separate swings through the Berkshires this week. "I watched the whole thing and I've known Tim Walz for a long time and I thought that the debate showed the vigor of where we find ourselves," Neal said at Lee Town Hall after bringing news of a $1 million earmark for Lee's proposed public safety building. This was one day after the vice presidential debate.

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that bridge painting operations will be performed on the I-90 bridge over Route 20 in Lee beginning Sunday night, Oct. 6. The work will take place Sunday through Thursday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and will conclude on Friday, Oct. 11, at 5:30 a.m. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during the work with a lane shift. The Route 20 eastbound on-ramp to I-90 will be closed at all times during this work. Traffic will be detoured to the nearby Route 20 westbound on-ramp to I-90. Appropriate signage and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — CHP Mobile Health is now offering the 2025 Covid-19 vaccine (Pfizer) during its mobile health clinics throughout the Berkshires. Patients are also invited to receive a flu shot at the same time, to ward off both Covid and flu this coming fall-winter. Patients with insurance are asked to bring their insurance card, though no one is denied access to vaccines due to lack of insurance or inability to pay.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Berkshire Running Foundation is eager to kick off the fundraising efforts surrounding the 9th annual MountainOne Thankful 5K to be held on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m. at Berkshire Community College. This year the Thankful 5K expands to include walkers, virtual participants and a new training program for the community. The annual event is a fundraiser hosted by the Foundation to raise much needed funds for the South Community Food Pantry and the local Fuel Assistance Fund. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A West Stockbridge woman has been charged in the hit-and-run that killed Franklin Ripley on Saturday. Samantha C. Paige, 36, was arrested Tuesday morning and arraigned in Southern Berkshire District Court. Defendant was charged with leaving scene of personal injury, resulting in death. Judge John P. McKenna set bail at $7,500. However, Paige is being held without the right to bail for a probation warrant issued by Central Berkshire District Court on an unrelated case.
