Central Berkshire Habitat Breaks Ground on Affordable Housing Project

Prosperity Way in Housatonic will the largest home-owner affordable housing development in more than two decades. 

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning for its new affordable housing project, Prosperity Way.

"You're on North Plain Road, but community has named this Prosperity Way, and it was really named to reflect their aspirations of what this is going to be for them in their lives. We've done years of community conversations and finding out what people wanted," Habitat CEO Carolyn Valli said.

West Stockbridge to Host Annual Card Pond Beach Party

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The West Stockbridge Parks & Recreation Department is scheduled to host the annual Card Pond Beach Party on Friday, July 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The event will feature a lakeside barbecue, lawn games, swimming, live music, and ice cream. Attendees will also have the opportunity to see the new pavilion. The Card Pond Beach Party is a free community event.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Abigail Geurds was the fastest female finisher in the 4th of July 5K on Friday morning.   Geurds covered the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes, 51 seconds to place 26th overall.   The race saw 1,141 competitors finish the out-and-back course from Wahconah Street south to the intersection of South Street and West Housatonic and back to Wahconah Park.   The top finisher overall was Steve Dowsett of Newburyport, who ran a time of 15:12 to finish three seconds ahead of runner-up Alex White of Dalton.   Finishers at the event ranged in age from Pittsfield’s Eamon Doyle, 7, who ran a time of 26:34, to

Berkshire Community Radio Alliance Receives Gift From Feigenbaum Foundation

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Berkshire Community Radio Alliance (BCRA) broadcasting at 97.7FM as WBCR-lp has received a $20,000 grant from The Feigenbaum Foundation to support the renovation of their studio at 320 Main Street.   The grant kicks off a 5-year project to enhance and upgrade the studio’s broadcast, recording, and training studio, which is currently being renovated as part of the extensive Mahaiwe Block renovation. The station is temporarily broadcasting from the 2nd floor of the Mahaiwe Building until construction is complete.   "We are most grateful for the generosity of The Feigenbaum Foundation," said John Prusinski, BCRA Board President.

Car Crashes Through Taft Farms Plant Display

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Police are investigating an incident in which a vehicle plowed through an outside display at Taft Farms. 

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, police received the call of a crash at the farm.  A car had driven through the outdoor plant section of the farm store on Park Street.  

About an hour later, employees were cleaning up a car-sized hole in the cement divider, and that section of plants was gone, but the business was operating seemingly as normal.  Those involved with the incident had left.
