Egremont Temporary Traffic Signal Installation on Main Street

EGREMONT, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced it will be installing a temporary traffic signal on Main Street (Route 23 and 41) near the intersection of Creamery Road in Egremont.   The traffic signal will be installed at the location of an existing drainage culvert that is scheduled to be replaced in July 2023. The current condition of the culvert necessitates the traffic signal installation.    Traffic will be alternating northbound and southbound utilizing the traffic signal.   Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.    All scheduled work is weather

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — On Monday, April 3 Jake Pelloth, age 36 of Ansonia, Conn,was arraigned in Southern Berkshire District Court on 3 counts of carrying a firearm without a license, possessing a firearm in felony, 2 counts improper storage of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute a class-B drug, trafficking in more than 36 grams, less than 100 grams heroin and several civil motor vehicle infractions.   Pelloth is currently being held at the Berkshire County House of Corrections on $50,000 bail with the following conditions: possess no dangerous weapon; not have any drugs or alcohol; receive treatment for drug dependence from Connections in Greenfield; provide

Great Barrington Receives MassDOT Funds to Improve Route 23

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The state Department of Transportation will provide $385,000 to improve a half-mile section of Route 23 near the Monterey town line.   The project will take place during the 2023 construction season, which is shaping up with infrastructure projects throughout town.   "This is a sizable contribution from DOT for an important project that's among many happening around town during the upcoming construction season," said Joe Aberdale, the town's superintendent of public works.   His department will announce additional projects in the coming weeks, as spring construction season approaches.   The Route 23 work includes

Hinsdale Man Pleads Guilty to Motor Vehicular Homicide

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — On Thursday, March 30 in Great Barrington District Court, Stephen Medina, age 50 of Hinsdale, pleaded guilty to motor vehicular homicide by negligent operation.    The accident occurred on Route 8 in Sandisfield on Dec. 12, 2021. Police responded to the scene a little after 3:00pm   The Commonwealth sought 18 months in the House of Corrections, one year direct with the balance suspended for three years, the maximum fine of $3000 and a 15-year loss of license with the condition of refraining from operating a motor vehicle until properly licensed.    Medina's lawyers requested 18 months' probation.   Judge Vrabel sentenced

MassHealth Customers Must Re-Enroll to Maintain Coverage, Beginning April 1

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Starting April 1, MassHealth enrollees must take action within 45 days to avoid potential loss of their MassHealth insurance coverage.     After a pandemic-related policy that relaxed the MassHealth coverage rules, the state is now returning to a redetermination process for its 2.3 million customers. Intersection Conflict Warning System Installation in Great Barrington
