Community Leaders Read to Kids at St. Mary's School

Participants in Read Across America Day at St. Mary's included community, business and spiritual leaders and a local author. 

LEE, Mass. — In conjunction with Read Across America, St. Mary's School is starting its big reading challenge.

"For every 10 minutes a kiddo reads they get a coin that goes into a big bin. At the end of the month, they will get either an ice cream party for whoever reads the most or a pizza party, something like that," said Principal Cara Maiorana-Culver. "March is literacy month and literacy is so important to schools and something that doesn't get enough emphasis."

Mount Everett School Locked Down Over Threat

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Mount Everett Regional School was put in lockdown Wednesday morning following threats made by a student.    According to the Berkshire District Attorney's office, both local law enforcement and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the DA's Office responded to the school.    Based on the law enforcement response, the DA's Office stated, there is no active threat to the Mount Everett Regional School community.   The threat apparently rose from a statement, or manifesto, posted online that has since been removed. Science, Art Program Offered for School Break

EGREMONT, Mass. — Flying Cloud Institute and Greenagers will once again hold a science and art exploration program during the February school break for children aged 7 to 13 years. It runs Feb. 17 - 20 from 9 to 3:30 (with early drop-off at 8:30 a.m.), at the April Hill Education and Conservation Center in South Egremont.   Participants will engage in science investigations, art projects, engineering challenges, and nature explorations. McCandless Staying as DuBois Middle School Principal

Bard College To Close Simon's Rock Campus
