LENOX, Mass. —  Milton Fink, 97, of Lenox, MA died on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Kimball Farms Life Care. Milt was born on August 2, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY. He was the son of the late Freida (Daskal) and Morris Fink and the brother to Goldie Fink.

Milt had a life-long passion for music. He was a gifted bass and cello player and pursued an undergraduate degree in music performance from The Juilliard School. Milt served in the army during World War II, performing in an army band throughout the U.S. After earning a master’s degree in music education from Teachers College, Columbia University, he shared his love of music with others as a devoted teacher and music supervisor for the New York City Public Schools for over 40 years. Milt commuted from his home on Long Island every weekday to teach at Forest Hills, Newtown, and Francis Lewis High Schools. He was also an active member of Local 802, the NYC musicians union, throughout his career.

Milt married Helen (Edelstein) Fink in 1949 and together they had three children. Throughout their life together, Helen and Milt travelled the world, fought for humanitarian and anti-war efforts, and were engaged members of the Democratic party. Milt called Helen his “sweetheart” up until the end.

Milt never stopped teaching and sharing his love of music. In retirement, he volunteered at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA and taught music theory to young musicians at the Berkshire Music School. Even into his 90s, he taught weekly music classes to other residents at Kimball Farms. Music was Milt’s lifeblood; he remembered songs even after most of his other memories escaped him.

Above all else, family meant the world to Milt. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved bringing the family together and will always be remembered for writing his own Passover seders, infused with the latest current events and political topics. In addition to his wife, Milton leaves his three children, David Fink (Karen) of Ossining, NY, Judy Fink (Rob) of Dummerston, VT, and Jesse Fink (Betsy) of Avon, CO. “Pop” also leaves three grandchildren, Nathan Freeberg, Drew Fink (Dani) and Carly Fink. We will miss Pop dearly.
