John Edward Gallagher

January 28, 2007

John Edward Gallagher, 78, of 43 Sherwood Drive, and of 24824 South Golfview Drive, Sun Lakes, Chandler, Ariz., died Sunday at Chandler Regional Hospital in Arizona.

Born April 1, 1928, son of Fredrick and Helen Erhbar Gallagher, he spent his younger years on the family farm in Mantua, Ohio. He graduated from Freedom High School in Mantua in 1946, and received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton in 1951.

Mr. Gallagher worked with the Plastics Division of General Electric Co. While at GE, he received the prestigious Steuben award, an honor presented to only 90 employees worldwide during the company's 100th anniversary celebration. In connection with his work, he also obtained a patent in plastics processing.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lenox.

He married the former Kathleen Cavanaugh, of Mantua and Arizona, on April 23, 1955.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, John Patrick Gallagher of Avondale, Pa., and James Gallagher of Plano, Texas; four daughters, Mary Dettmann of Charlottesville, Va., Erin Kundmueller of Houston, Teri Replogle of Centerville, Ohio, and Bridget Gallagher of Lynn; three brothers, Bill Gallagher of Mogadore, Ohio, Leo Gallagher of Mantua and Bob Gallagher of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and 20 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Celebration of Life and a Christian Burial mass for John Edward Gallagher, who died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, will be held Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua, Ohio.

Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Township. Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at GREEN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY SERVICE, Mantua. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Ann's Family Center Building Fund, St. Ann's Catholic Church, 134 Main St, Lenox, MA 01240, or to HospiceCare in The Berkshires, 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Mr. Gallagher also leaves two daughters-in-law, Janet Strehl and Carol Puza; and three sons-in-law, Marc Dettmann, Jeff Kundmueller and Tom Replogle.
