WESTFIELD, Mass. – Jackson Barnes drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and send the Westfield 16-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball team a 5-4 win over Southern Berkshire in the Western Massachusetts Tournament on Friday night. Cam Simmons and Kyle McMahon each went 2-for-3 at the plate for Southern Berkshire, which got a double from Gabe Ranzoni. WESTFIELD, Mass. – Jaylen Dean and Ryan Aldrich combined on a one-hitter Friday as the Westfield Babe Ruth 14-year-old All-Stars defeated South Berkshire, 6-0, in the Western Massachusetts Tournament. Dean struck out eight in five innings of work to earn the win on the mound as Westfield (2-0) finished on top of a three-team round robin and advanced to Sunday’s championship game against Pittsfield.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Abigail Geurds was the fastest female finisher in the 4th of July 5K on Friday morning. Geurds covered the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes, 51 seconds to place 26th overall. The race saw 1,141 competitors finish the out-and-back course from Wahconah Street south to the intersection of South Street and West Housatonic and back to Wahconah Park. The top finisher overall was Steve Dowsett of Newburyport, who ran a time of 15:12 to finish three seconds ahead of runner-up Alex White of Dalton. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Infield is offering a series of youth sports camps for children aged 4 to 12 starting next week at its Lyman Street facility. The first two sessions are a baseball camp for children 7 to 12. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon, July 7-9. From 9 to noon, July 21-23, The Infield will hold a softball camp for children 7 to 12. PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Dominic Marcella drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh Sunday to give the Pittsfield Post 68-1 American Legion Baseball team a 7-6 win over Sheffield Post 340. The team went 12-0 in the regular season and advanced to the league semi-finals with a 12-5 win at home against South Hadley.
