PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Fall Senior Golf series returns in September with events on five consecutive Wednesdays starting Sept. 18. It is the 22nd year of the series, which is a fund-raiser for junior golf in the county, and it is open to players aged 50 and up. The series will feature two divisions for each event based on the combined ages of the playing partners. Golfers play from the white tees (or equivalent) with participants 70 and over or who have a handicap of more than 9 able to play from the forward tees. Taconic High School graduate and Columbia University junior Anton Lazits is hitting .253 for the Lions this spring. Lazits has six home runs, five doubles and 13 RBIs in starting all 22 games for the Lions, who are 10-12 overall and 5-1 in the Ivy League heading into this weekend's games at Dartmouth. PITTSFIELD, Mass. – As it enters its 13th season, the Berkshire Adult Baseball League has a new commissioner. Jared Martin takes over the reins this spring from BABL founder Lou Orazio. The league, which has games mostly on Sunday mornings with some weeknights throughout the season, runs from early May through mid-August in two divisions, the 20-and-over Division and the 33-and-over Division. “The 20+ year old division is full of mostly competitive players, while the 33+ year old division is a more fun environment and less on the competitive side of things,” Martin said. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Berkshire Running Foundation has released the 2024 Race Calendar for the local nonprofit with several new events scheduled throughout the county. Following its first official year operating as a nonprofit entity in 2023, the 501c3 organization, which has a mission of advancing and expanding on the positive impact the running community has on the neighborhoods we live, produced, and directed eight events in 2023. Framingham State senior point guard Gwendolyn Carpenter last month broke the all time assist record at the school. Her 466th career assist came in a win over Curry College on Dec. 9, breaking a 5-year-old school record. Carpenter was averaging more than seven assists per game going into Wednesday's home game against Westfield State. She also led the Rams (11-1) in minutes played, averaging 36.8 minutes per contest and had scored 9.4 points per game. Carpenter is no stranger to breaking records.
