Scary Stories Around the Fire with Robert Oakes09:09AM / Wednesday, October 06, 2021 | |
MONTEREY, Mass. — On Saturday Oct. 9 and Sunday Oct. 10, the Bidwell House Museum will present the program Scary Stories Around The Fire.
Visitors will sit around the fire with Robert Oakes, author of the recent book Ghosts of the Berkshires, and listen as he shares readings on Berkshire Colonial-era history and ghost lore and tells the tale of "The Ghost of Green River." Following the outdoor fireside presentation, Robert will lead a candlelit ghost walk through the house.
This event will happen from 7-9 pm on Saturday and 4-6 pm on Sunday. There will be some scary elements so the program is most appropriate for ages 12 and up. Part of this program is outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Cider and donuts will be available after the outdoor part of the program.
Robert Oakes is a writer, teacher, and singer/songwriter from the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. He has written for AAA, Canyon Ranch, and a number of other publications and organizations and performs as part of the Berkshire-based folk music duo Oakes and Smith.
Since 2010 Robert has led the ghost tours at The Mount in Lenox and has represented the museum and its ghosts on Syfy's Ghost Hunters, Jeff Belanger's New England Legends series on PBS, and The Apple Seed, hosted by Sam Payne, on BYUradio. He is currently leading ghost tours of The Mount and Ventfort Hall and was the former caretaker of the Bidwell House Museum.
