Monument Mountain Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian for 2024

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Ariel "Ari" Caine and Madeleine Rocheleau-Holmes have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of Monument Mountain Regional High School class of 2024.   Both will speak at graduation ceremonies being held on Sunday, June 2, at 1:30 p.m. at Tanglewood in Lenox.    Caine is the child of Hanan and Rebecca Caine of Richmond. They are a member of the National Honor Society, Edith's Ensemble Chamber Music Group, Creative Writing Club, and are an integral member of Monument's Fall Festival of Shakespeare and the spring musical theater program, managing the lighting and sound design for all performances as well as

LENOX, Mass. — The graduates in Lee High School's class of 2024 were encouraged to move forward with optimism and curiosity.

Fifty-seven seniors received diplomas on Saturday at Tanglewood. Valedictorian Allen Ni and salutatorian Kira Johnson have high hopes for their peers in college and beyond.

Mount Everett Class Touted as 'Little Engines That Could'

LENOX, Mass. — Mount Everett Regional School graduates were touted as the "little engines that could" in a world riddled with conflict.

Thirty students crossed the Tanglewood stage Saturday morning under sunny skies. School Committee Chair Bonnie Silvers explained that when writing her address to the class, she turned to the American folktale "The Little Engine That Could."

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing crews will be conducting daytime and overnight hour guardrail repair, drainage work, pavement marking, and bridge repair operations at various locations and times on I-90 eastbound and westbound during the week of Monday, June 3.     Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones.  The schedule for the work and lane closures will be as follows:      Otis/Blandford    Guardrail and drainage work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound and westbound between mile marker 21.0 to 26.6 from

Berkshire Waldorf High School Secures $4M Donation

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Berkshire Waldorf High School announced that it has received $4 million from an anonymous donor toward renovation of Procter Hall, the Old Town Hall at 6 Main Street.   The school has completed the architectural phase of the project design and construction is now underway. Pamela Sandler, AIA, is the lead architect on the project, and Marois Construction is on-site doing the actual renovation. Lee High School Announces Graduation Speakers For 2024

LEE, Mass. — Allen Ni and Kira Johnson have been named the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for Lee High School's class of 2024.   Ni is the son of Kong Liang Ni and Wen Hui Zheng of Lee. He is a member of the National Honor Society, varsity tennis team, band, student government, GSA, quiz team, Social Justice Club, Let's Talk, and the class steering committee. Bidwell House: Exploring the History of New England Redware

MONTEREY, Mass.  Justin Thomas will speak about the museum's red earthenware collection.

These objects will be used to tell stories about red earthenware (and some stoneware) production all over New England, spanning the seventeenth through the early twentieth century. The notion of wares made by the rural country potter during the post-American Revolution period through about 1870 will be also discussed in comparison to the urbanized industries that existed in New England before and after the Revolutionary War.

CDCSB Purchases Former Thornwood Inn

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Community Development Corporation South Berkshire (CDCSB), a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Great Barrington has completed the purchase of the former Thornewood Inn located at 453 Stockbridge Road.    The CDCSB is repurposing the property to create workforce housing for our area, with a soft opening planned in early June.   The purchase of this property was made possible by financial supporters including the Great Barrington Community Preservation Committee, Greylock Federal Credit Union, and CDCSB donors and friends.   The per unit cost of creating this housing option is about $85,000 — a fraction of the $400,000 to $500,000 cost

BAC Announces Artists for Berkshire Artist Residency Program

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Berkshire Art Center, formerly IS183 Art School, announced their five selected resident artists, Dai Ban, Grigori Fateyev, Stacy Scibelli, Kara Smith and Kyle Strack, for the Berkshire Artist Residency Program 2024. 

The Red Lion Inn, in their seventh year hosting a resident artist, will be welcoming Kara Smith. Chesterwood, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will be hosting three artists this year, Dai Ban, Grigori Fateyev and Kyle Strack. In their inaugural year hosting a resident artist, Ventfort Hall Gilded Age Mansion and Museum will be welcoming Stacy Scibelli.
