Blaze Destroys Great Barrington Garage, Woodworking Shop| 11:01AM / Friday, July 28, 2023 | |
 GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A Division Street garage went up in flames on Thursday night, destroying the woodworking shop inside. The fire is under investigation by local authorities and the State Fire Marshal's Office but is not deemed suspicious and is presumed to be weather related. There were no injuries. Firefighters responded to 69 Division St. at about 7:56 p.m. for a reported garage fire; additional calls to 911 reported a fully engulfed garage with a house in close proximity.  GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Carmen Morales, who joined the town's administrative staff in December 2020, has been promoted to the position of assistant town accountant. She previously served as an administrative assistant in the office of the Selectboard and Town Manager. In her earlier career, Morales was a senior account clerk for the City of Pittsfield, and she also worked for the city's Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Earlier, she worked as an administrator and bookkeeper for Brodersen Enterprises in Puerto Rico. Berkshire County residents can expect high temperatures this week but a relatively cooler weekend. Today Thursday, July 27, expect temperatures in the high 70s with storms. AccuWeather reports that storms could bring flooding downpours, hail, damaging wind gusts, and an isolated tornado. There is an area flood watch in effect from 9 am to 10 pm. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. On Friday, July 28, expect mostly cloudy weather with temperatures in the high 80s.
