Be Aware of Runners Near BCC During Thursday Morning Fund-Raiser

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Residents are asked to be aware of traffic delays on outer West Street along the Berkshire Community College campus down to Meadow Ridge on Thanksgiving morning between 9 and 10 a.m. for the 10th annual MountainOne Thankful 5K.   The annual event is a fundraiser for the local Berkshire County food pantries.   As of Tuesday afternoon, there are close to 700 runners registered for the race. The event will have walkers and runners and more than 100 students participating for free.   Attendees are asked to remain on the left side of the road throughout the event to ensure traffic can flow through the event. Winterlights Returns for the Holidays at Naumkeag

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Winterlights, a signature event from The Trustees of Reservations, returns to Naumkeag starting Nov. 28.    Tickets are on sale now.   Winterlights features hundreds of thousands of environmentally friendly LED holiday lights decorating the grounds of the historic property. Thanksgiving will be observed on Thursday, Nov. 27. The day is a national holiday inspired by the first Thanksgiving dinner shared between the Pilgrims and Wampanoags in 1621 at Plymouth. The living history museum Plimoth Patuxet continues the tradition each year with a recreation of the event in which visitors can participate. 

Thanksgiving was first federally recognized by proclamation in 1863 by President Lincoln at the height of the Civil War. It did not become codified as a national holiday until 1941, when President

MassDOT: Daytime Construction Operations on I-90

BECKET, Mass. – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing it will be performing daytime bridge painting work, bridge work, and bridge repairs on I-90 eastbound and westbound in the towns of Becket, Blandford, Montgomery, and Russell.

All work is weather dependent and will take place at the following locations and times:

Bridge painting work will be conducted on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 20.0 on Monday, Nov. 24, and Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a lane closure in place.

State Housing Secretary Hears Struggles, Opportunities in Southern Berkshire

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — State Secretary of Housing Edward Augustus visited Berkshire County on Tuesday to hear about the region's needs and see opportunities for adding more units. 

"Partnering, that's really the theme," Augustus said after a roundtable discussion at Town Hall with developers and community leaders.

"The state can't do it all by itself, local communities can't do it, but together, there's a lot that we can do to take out some of the time, some of the cost of creating more units." 

Massachusetts has 43,000 units of state-owned housing for eligible people who pay 30 percent of their income to live there.
