PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) announced it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to receive a Grants for Arts Projects award of $50,000. This grant will support the Creative Compact for Collaborative and Collective Impact (C4) Initiative. This grant is one of 1,251 Grants for Arts Projects awards totaling nearly $28.8 million that were announced by the NEA as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. –- The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' Athletic Department will host two events on Feb. 4 to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day – an initiative that dates back to 1987 to encourage the participation of girls and women in sports. Clinic registration is open until Jan. 29. The day will include a pickleball clinic and tournament for women from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Amsler Campus Center gymnasium and a sports clinic for girls in grades 3-8 from 12 to 4 at the gym. PITTSFIELD, Mass. —Berkshire Community College (BCC) and Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) will offer a free Choke Saver Training class offered on various dates in several locations throughout Berkshire County. The 75-minute class provides participants with a two-year certification. Local businesses, such as restaurants, that are required to have Choke Safe certified individuals on site are particularly encouraged to participate. BOSTON — Great Barrington received $303,970.00 in Complete Streets funding for the construction of new sidewalks on West Avenue and Lewis Avenue. The project will also improve six bus stops, including new ADA-compliant waiting areas and lighting. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After nearly 15 years of hosting their monthly Pittsfield Green Drinks gathering, Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) is expanding their Green Drinks from Pittsfield to county-wide, making it 'Berkshire Green Drinks'. Before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pittsfield Green Drinks took place exclusively at a restaurant or pub in Pittsfield. Starting in 2023, BEAT will begin changing the location of their in-person gatherings to different towns throughout Berkshire County every month. MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is reminding the public to take precautions around wild birds, as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) continues to circulate in the state. Backyard flocks of domestic birds in Caledonia and Lamoille Counties have had to be destroyed after exposure to the virus, commonly known as avian flu.
