BArT Ballers Battle But Bow Out in League Semis

HARDWICK, Mass. -- The short-handed Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School basketball team Wednesday put up a fight for 32 minutes but could not overcome Eagle Hill in the semi-finals of the River Valley Athletic League tournament.   Despite 23 points from Corey Lynch and 14 from Sam Touray, the Wolf Pack fell, 62-43, to its long-time rival to the east.   BArT coach Robert Daugherty said his day started with the news that senior and top inside defender Ivan Chen was medically unavailable for the road trip.   That was a big blow for BArT, which dropped a one-point decision to Eagle Hill earlier this year and faced the challenge of matching 6-foot-4 Hampton Carver

Simon's Rock is a Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. —The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs named Bard College at Simon's Rock a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for U.S. Scholars.    This recognition is given to the U.S. colleges and universities that received the highest number of applicants selected for the 2022-23 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.   Most recently, Simon's Rock alumna Chazlee Myers was awarded an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) grant by the US-Italy Fulbright Commission to provide assistance to local English teachers in Italy and act as a cultural ambassador for the U.S from October 2022 to June 2023. Southern Berkshire Regional Residents Express Merger Concerns

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Southern Berkshire community members expressed their apprehension last week over a potential merger between Southern Berkshire Regional School District and Berkshire Hills Regional School District.   Attendees made it clear that the Eight Town Regional School District Planning Board will have to better clarify the timeline, cost, educational experience impact, and district employee impact to get their vote.    Approximately 75 residents expressed their concerns and frustrations during the "community conversation" meeting at Mount Everett Regional School. BArT Charter Basketball Advances to League Semi-Final

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Sawyer Moser Monday scored 20 points to lead the Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School basketball team to a 58-40 win over Hadley's Hartsbrook School in the River Valley Athletic League tournament.   The Wolf Pack used a 15-2 run in the first quarter to take control of the game, and the margin never dipped below 12 points the rest of the way.   Corey Lynch scored 15, and Matt Lizzo scored 11 for BArT in a game played at the Armory. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Berkshires' Academy for Advanced Musical Studies, Inc., (BAAMS) announced it has recently garnered support from several donors and foundations, all contributing to the expansion of its mission and increasing its ability to serve more young music students from Berkshire County and beyond.   A donation was received from Michelle Daunais and Rick Seto of Weymouth, double matched by Takeda Pharmaceutical, as well as funds raised through Network for Good, and funds were also donated in Memory of John T. Simon's Rock Presents Tongji Philip Qian's Duration of Status

The US National Weather Service has released a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7 pm Tuesday, Feb. 7,  morning to 1 am Wednesday morning.   Expect mixed precipitation with snow and sleet accumulation of up to one inch. Ice accumulation should be a light glaze.   Precipitation will start as a mix of snow and rain, transitioning into sleet mixing with freezing rain. Daytime Pavement Repair Operations on I-90 Westbound in Becket

BECKET, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced it will be conducting daytime hour pavement repair operations on I-90 westbound at mile marker 17.3 in Becket.     The work will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and will require temporary lane closures.
