STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Berkshire Art Center (formerly IS183 Art School) welcomes longtime faculty member, Kristin Grippo, as the new Community Engagement Director and announce the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors this fall, which includes Milena Cerna, David Gilbert and Cheryl Mirer.   Having taught children for over twenty years, Grippo has been a faculty educator with Berkshire Art Center for nearly a decade. Behavioral Health Network Receives State Grant

BOSTON — Behavioral Health Network, Inc., which services communities in Berkshire County, received a $772,706 grant to support mental health among young children.   The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced that they are awarding $4.1 million in Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Grants to organizations that support the social-emotional development and behavioral health of children in early education and care programs across Massachusetts.   This funding will go to six organizations that serve early education programs by training providers and improving program processes to promote the developmental, social-emotional, and behavioral well-being of infants and young

Lee CTA Offers Free Tennis Clinics

LEE, Mass. – The Lee Community Tennis Association and Western Massachusetts chapter of the U.S. Tennis Association will offer free clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays this fall.   The program is open to children in grades 3 through 8.   The clinics will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, Sept. 12, and continuing twice weekly for five weeks.   Sessions will be held at the Lee Community Center and on the Lee High School courts.   For information, visit the LCTA website.

South County Daytime and Overnight Hour Construction

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that crews will be conducting daytime and overnight hour pavement milling, slope stabilization, barrier setting, and joint and drainage repair operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Becket, Otis, Lee, West Stockbridge, and Stockbridge.   The work will be conducted at various times and locations from Tuesday, Sept. 5, through Friday, Sept. 8.   Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones.  The schedule for the work and lane closures will be as follows:   Becket/Otis Slope stabilization operations

McCann Tech Students Plan Charity Run for Maui Fire Relief

CHESHIRE, Mass. — The McCann Tech cross country team on Sept. 16 will host a 5-kilometer trail run and 1 mile walk to benefit victims of August's fire in Hawaii.   The Walk/Run for Maui fund-raiser will take place at Whitney's Farm on Ingalls Road (follow the dirt road past the U-Pick blueberries).   Check in on Saturday, Sept. 16, will be at 7:30 a.m. The 5K trail run begins at 8:30, and the stroller-friendly 1 mile walk begins at 9:30.   The cost to register is $20 in advance or $25 the day of registration. Warmer Temperatures This Labor Day Weekend

It will actually feel like summer this weekend with temperatures in the 80s.   Today Thursday, Aug. 31 there will be sunshine with temperatures in the low 70s.   The same can be expected Friday but with warmer temperatures in the high 70s, reports AccuWeather.   Saturday, Sept. 2 will be partly sunny with temperatures in the low 80s.   Sunday will be mostly sunny and more humid with temperatures again in the low 80s.   Monday will be in the mid-80s with mostly sunny skies, and Tuesday is set to be even warmer with temperatures possibly breaking into the 90s.
