West Stockbridge Affordable Housing Trust Volunteers Needed

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The West Stockbridge Select Board is looking for volunteers to become a member of the new Affordable Housing Board of Trustees.     The Select Board will appoint four (4) voting members to this Board. All members must be full-time residents of West Stockbridge.     Those interested, can send a letter of interest to Town Administrator Marie Ryan by mail at 21 State Line Road, West Stockbridge, MA 01266 or by email to admin@weststockbridge-ma.gov.     All letters of interest must be received by Aug. 1, 2023.

Paving, Bridge, Guardrail, and Drainage Operations on I-90

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing crews will be conducting overnight and daytime paving operations and bridge, guardrail, and drainage repair work on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Montgomery, Russell, Lee, Becket, and West Stockbridge.    The scheduled work will require some lane and shoulder closures, and is scheduled to take place as follows:   Montgomery/Russell Bridge repair work will be conducted nightly on I-90 eastbound and westbound at mile marker 36 from Sunday, July 9, to Friday, July 14, during overnight hours from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning.  All work is anticipated to conclude by

Composting with Bears in Mind

MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department says many people are having problems with bears looking for food near their homes, and with the food scrap ban in effect the department is providing tips for people who are composting at home so they can avoid attracting hungry bears. 

"We have been receiving lots of reports of bears on decks, tearing down bird feeders, wrecking beehives, killing chickens, and getting into trash, compost and garbage containers," said bear biologist Jaclyn Comeau.  "We are offering some guidance on how to compost at home without attracting bears."
