Preschool, Kindergarten Registrations Scheduled Around County

Berkshire County schools are scheduling and re-scheduling preschool and kindergarten registration dates and procedures for the 2021-22 school year. Schools can send their information to info@iberkshires.com to be included on this list.   All students, regardless of race, religion, color, sex, gender identity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or homelessness, have equal access to the general education program and the full range of any occupational, vocational programs offered by public school districts.   Gabriel Abbott Memorial School has begun the process of registering Kindergarten and Pre-kindergarten students for the 2023-2024 school year. Lee High Names Tops Students for Class of 2023

LEE, Mass. — Tyler J. Moran and Isabella G. Lovato have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of Lee High School's class of 2023.     Graduation ceremonies will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, at the Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood.   Moran is the son of Bruce and Sherri Moran of Lee. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was a French tutor and an elementary school robotics coach; he also regularly volunteers at the local food pantry. Authorities Investigating Ward's Nursery Fire in Great Barrington

The aftermath of the blaze behind Ward's Nursery. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — An outdoor storage area at Ward's Nursery caught fire on Friday and damaged the exterior of an apartment house less than a dozen feet away on Silver Street.    The cause of the fire is unknown and the State Fire Marshal's office is working the investigation with local police and fire. Lee, Becket Overnight Paving, Bridge and Guardrail Repair

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Williamstown's Alex White was the first runner across the finish line at Sunday's MountainOne Steel Rail Marathon on the Ashuwilticook Trail.   White maintained a 6 minute, 26 second per mile pace over the 26.2 mile course from Pittsfield to Adams and back.   He reached the finish line in 2:48.42.41 to finish 5-1/2 minutes ahead of the rest of the other 72 runners who finished the event's marathon division.   The fastest finisher in the marathon was Stephen Gulley of Billingham, the event's lone hand pedaler, who finished in 2:20:05.36.   The first female runner across the finish line was Assonet's Hailey Desmarais
