Baseball in the Berkshires Hosts West Stockbridge Exhibit

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. – Baseball in the Berkshires and the West Stockbridge Historical Society will host “Hitting to All Fields in West Stockbridge,” a special exhibit in the society’s Main Street building, April 27 to 30.   Baseball can be traced back in West Stockbridge to at least 1870 but later grew in popularity as a spectator sport during the 1930s and ‘40s with Garrett Troy’s Troy’s Garage team playing at Keresey Field. Eversource and Big Y Partner on Energy Efficiency Projects

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Following energy efficiency upgrades at 21 Big Y grocery stores across Connecticut and Massachusetts, the chain is now reaping the benefits and savings.   Big Y partnered with Eversource's energy efficiency experts to take advantage of incentive programs to make several upgrades in multiple stores. Moderna's Chief Scientific Officer Speaking at Simon's Rock Commencement

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Simon's Rock alum Dr. Eric Huang, general manager and chief scientific officer of Moderna Genomics, will address the graduates at the 54th commencement ceremony of Bard College at Simon's Rock on Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m.    The ceremony will be held in person and will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.   Huang received his associate's degree in 1988 from Simon's Rock before earning his bachelor's degree from Emory University. Egremont Temporary Traffic Signal Installation on Main Street

EGREMONT, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced it will be installing a temporary traffic signal on Main Street (Route 23 and 41) near the intersection of Creamery Road in Egremont.   The traffic signal will be installed at the location of an existing drainage culvert that is scheduled to be replaced in July 2023. The current condition of the culvert necessitates the traffic signal installation.    Traffic will be alternating northbound and southbound utilizing the traffic signal.   Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.    All scheduled work is weather

Great Barrington Receives MassDOT Funds to Improve Route 23

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The state Department of Transportation will provide $385,000 to improve a half-mile section of Route 23 near the Monterey town line.   The project will take place during the 2023 construction season, which is shaping up with infrastructure projects throughout town.   "This is a sizable contribution from DOT for an important project that's among many happening around town during the upcoming construction season," said Joe Aberdale, the town's superintendent of public works.   His department will announce additional projects in the coming weeks, as spring construction season approaches.   The Route 23 work includes

Hinsdale Man Pleads Guilty to Motor Vehicular Homicide

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — On Thursday, March 30 in Great Barrington District Court, Stephen Medina, age 50 of Hinsdale, pleaded guilty to motor vehicular homicide by negligent operation.    The accident occurred on Route 8 in Sandisfield on Dec. 12, 2021. Police responded to the scene a little after 3:00pm   The Commonwealth sought 18 months in the House of Corrections, one year direct with the balance suspended for three years, the maximum fine of $3000 and a 15-year loss of license with the condition of refraining from operating a motor vehicle until properly licensed.    Medina's lawyers requested 18 months' probation.   Judge Vrabel sentenced

MassHealth Customers Must Re-Enroll to Maintain Coverage, Beginning April 1

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Starting April 1, MassHealth enrollees must take action within 45 days to avoid potential loss of their MassHealth insurance coverage.     After a pandemic-related policy that relaxed the MassHealth coverage rules, the state is now returning to a redetermination process for its 2.3 million customers. This renewal process requires MassHealth customers to take several simple steps, which can take place online, in-person, by phone or via U.S. mail.     According to MassHealth:   "This re-enrollment process will be the single largest health coverage transition event since the first open enrollment of the Affordable Care Act
